Recycled Tin Craft

Recycled Tin Craft
If you are an avid crafter or have a child at home you can never have enough pen stands! Here sharing a fun kids craft using a tin and some foam sheets.
Recycled Tin Craft
We recycled this old canned fruit tin for this craft.I cut out the shapes for the ducks parts from orange and yellow foam sheets and let my daughter have fun!
Recycled Tin Craft
When working with kids glue drops are ideal adhesives as they are fast and for little impatient crafters this makes crafting all the more fun. And no waiting for the glue to dry or " Mamma is it dry yet"!

Recycled Tin Craft
We stuck the yellow foam body using double sided adhesive tape and my daughter stuck the feet using glue drops.

Recycled Tin Craft
She wanted the wings positioned so that the duck was saying" Hi !"

Recycled Tin Craft
Then some googly eyes and beaks. She wanted the beak to protrude forward but I couldnt quite achieve that!

Recycled Tin Craft
My daughter felt the little duck needed some more beautifying and so we added one more recycling element by adding a thermocol hat cut out from a thermocol tray used as vegetable packing.
Recycled Tin Craft
We also added a red rose to the ducks neck. The red rose and leaf are made from play dough. Here is the link to the Clay Rose making Tutorial.

Play dough Rose
We added an orange ribbon and some orange flowers to the ducks body

Tips when crafting with little kids:
  1. Involve them in deciding what they want to make
  2. Ask their suggestion on colors
  3. Have the pieces all cut out and ready before you start crafting in earnest. Or if its simple shapes you can get your little one to cut too. I didnt want to waste any foam so I cut out the pieces of foam in this craft!
  4. Have a fast adhesive at hand if you plan to stick something other than paper
  5. Let your young crafter arrange the parts and do the sticking
  6. Ask if there is anything to make it look better
  7. I also encourage her to save all our bits of crafting material and not waste anything.
And so we are sharing our Duck pen stand saying " Hi ! " designed by my  5 year old daughter !

  1. Lovely! I am not too good with recylcing though Aaryan and I do manage a fair bit when I make stuff for him. I will soon share a little project we did a couple of days back - very basic and boy-ish though :D
And nice tips. It never struck me to use glue drops with him... and i perennially face the 'is it dry yet, mamma?' question from him. I am always too worried he will stick himself up with the glue drops ;-)

Thanks for these do-able kids projects. Love them!

  2. Oh would love to see all Kids crafts Smita. when using glue drops- let him peel off one layer only before sticking- stick it to the surface and then peel off the other layer -- that way your child wont have to touch the glue drop at all!

  5. I agree that with kids, there are never enough places to hold the pens, pencils, erasers, colored pencils, markers, and highlighters that seem to reproduce in my house. I love this idea....it's really cute...and I hadn't considered glue drops as the best medium for my kids' creations, but it makes complete sense. Thanks for sharing your fun, bright, cheery project. It would be cute to make a few animal themed cans to keep our collection in.

  11. Yes Hussena before I craft with my daughter unless I plan it out to some extent she will get bored and lose interest. With kids it has to a quick and simple craft otherwise it becomes a chore than fun! Many times like when I make cards I let her add the finishing touches like add pearls, stick the flowers leaves etc and she loves it as then she get to finish the lovely card!
