Paper flower making is fun and rewarding--you actually dont need any fancy tools to make beautiful flowers but its easier and definitely quicker if you have a couple of punches ,some embossing tools and a handy forceps.

Sharing an easy flower made with the balloon shape.
Materials Used
Paper- thicker than normal writing paper but not as thick as card stock.Thin paper does not hold the shape well and thick paper is more difficult to punch and shape- experiment and go with the paper thickness which feels good to you!
Punches for petal shape and base- I punched 5 balloon shapes for the petals and a circle shape for the base.The techniques used to make this flower can be adapted to any petal shape so dont despair if you dont have a balloon punch or for that matter any punch ! The snowflake punch used to make the flower centers is a recent purchase-- I literally fell in love with the shape and couldnt resist it!
Embossing tool-Can be substituted with the round blunt end of a pen
Embossing mat -you can use the reverse of the mouse pad--like I often do when both myself and my daughter make flowers and we both have to emboss at the same time!![My 5 year old is passionate about punchcraft nowadays!]
Self retaining Forceps- Not really required but makes your job easier especially if you have stubby fingers like mine !
Emboss around the edge of your flower petal to get petal shapes as shown[both surfaces are illustrated]

Grasp the center of the petal and pinch the lower part of the petal as shown using your thumb and index finger.

You will get lovely petal shapes as in the photograph below. Emboss a circle or other shape for the base of your paper flower and apply glue on the rim of the embossed circle and the ridges on the other side of your paper flower petals.

Glue petal by petal onto the base overlapping each other.To create a deeper cup for your paper flower apply a little pressure on the petal stem at the center of your flower and the petal literally pops up!

Make a flower center using punched shapes ,paper fringing technique, beads , stamens or whatever you fancy.I embossed 3 snowflake shapes to different degrees by varying the pressure exerted on the center of the punched snowflake.

ReplyDeletePoornima on pressing the embossing ball shaped tool on the edge of the petal-- the paper gets creased in that fashion...try it even my little one could make this flower!

And other thing, can you please tell me the glue and the embossing tool you used here? For my projects, I tried many types (and sizes) of glue, nothing feels good. Please do reply.

Deepa I use the opaque white Fevicol MR glue--this is the best I have found for crafting-- its thick, dries fairly fast and is not expensive!The glue bottle shown in the picture is camlin Krafty Glue- I love the nozzle of this bottle --its nice and narrow to give a small glue dot ideal for crafting with tiny paper bits! What I do is I tend to fill up these bottles with the Fevicol brand glue! Embossing tools are nowadays available in craft shops [ see the link to craft supply stores in India]-- the rounded one you see in the picture is actually part of a clay modelling tool set.If you have kids ransack their playdough/clay craft kits and you may find something better than the pen to emboss!

Hey there sweet Sonia. I just got your message at my blog about the "wreath" link not working. Not sure what happened...it worked for me. You will get the same result if you go to my home page, then up in the left hand corner (in the search bos) you type wreath then click the magnifying glass.
