Dear friends I love to hoard cardboard boxes and tins and whenever we get time my kiddo and I spruce them up a bit and use them to store all our nick knacks!
These are the box and tin can we used in our recycling craft

2 weeks back after months of dilly dallying I finally took the plunge and bought a Big shot machine.For 1 week I treated it like a breakable crystal and allowed my daughter to only watch when I used it! In our house so far I have let my kiddo use all my crafting stuff except the craft knife and the glue gun ! So I felt like the big bad mean witch who wouldn't share !! and besides it was no fun crafting alone! So this weekend I let her use "my toy" and now she is a pro and can even remember the sandwich combinations !!
So here is my kiddo carefully and with wonder using the Big Shot to create her ocean themed recycling craft!

She embossed pearlised card stock in dots and swirls pattern and carefully layered them over the box we were recycling

Whenever I craft with my daughter I love to sit back and see how she creates! It was fun how she made the sandy beach with a coconut tree.She embossed swirls on pearly white card for the clouds which I helped her cut out.

My little one is a romantic and she added a boy and girl on the beach and a pair of dolphins leaping into the sky

We stuck thermocol balls on the tree for "coconuts" and some shell for the ocean theme.

We transformed the originally dull surfaced foam dolphins into glossy shiny beauties using glossy accents

Wound some pom pom ribbon around the lower part of the box and also stuck embossed paper on the sides of the lid to match the design on the top.

We recycled the tin can using the same ocean theme.

My little one stuck googly eyes on all the sea creatures .

We dabbed glitter at many places on our ocean scenery

I never thought having a die cutting machine would be so much fun and never imagined a 6 year old could handle it so easily!

I hope you enjoyed this fun ocean craft.You dont need a machine to create fun stuff .....but having one is just like having a fun toy!

I think I will put the big shot on my wish list. It seems to have a lot more possibilities than the Cuttlebug.

DeleteWhat a fun and exciting time to craft with the little ones. I love crafting with my grandson. They are a lot more creative than most think. She did a FANTASTIC job both the box and the can are adorable.

DeleteLike the Ocean theme & makeover on these. I have a Sizzix BIGkick which is similar to yours but is blue & black instead of pink & black. How wide is the opening of the BigShot. Mine is 6" and that;s not wide enough for the big Spellbinders.

Melissa the big shot is also 6 inches wide but I think the Big Kick has more advantages over the big shot
DeleteOk, I also have one of the old style first Sixxiz machines that you pressed the handle down which was hard to do some times & it did not do embossing instead of cranking the handle like the BIGkick I have & Big Shot you have. Had it for sale at my garage sale but it did not sell and instead one of my first Cricut machines with 6" wide mat sold since I upgraded to the 12" x 12" style Cricut.

ReplyDeleteYes Yvonne--the moment she finishes her homework she enthusiastically tells me that we will play with the big shot!! Tons of embossing and die cutting going on in our house nowadays--I will soon run out of foam and paper!

Ah Sonia you have succumbed and joined the fan club of the big shot - it is a fab tool and so sturdy. I love using mine for dies and materials of all types as I think so far it is the best of the bunnch. What a talented daughter you have - I hope you both continue to enjoy your new toy

ReplyDeleteFabulous you are crafting with your daughter....this will follow her into her adult life and what wonderful memories you are creating with her. My mom never let me touch her sewing machine, her special scissors, her favorite fountain pen, etc....and she was a fabulous seamstress and I can barely sew a straight line! LOL!
anyway, love all yours and your daughter's creations here! I always love checking back in with you and seeing what you are doing in your part of the world!

Ha Ha Susan even though my mom tried to teach me sewing I still struggle to stitch a straight one too...but not in my surgery LOL!
