Alcohol Ink Coloring Techniques

Alcohol Inks Card
Dear friends Thank you so much for appreciating  the Alcohol Inks Introduction and Alcohol Inks Card techniques posts. Here is yet another simple Alcohol Ink Technique.
This month I am participating in the Hop to Stop Domestic Violence awareness Challenge featuring purple creations. Though my die cut  leaves look almost black in the photo above , the side view photo below shows the purple - red hues.
Alcohol Inks Card
Any Alcohol Ink project looks different when viewed at from different angles and I felt this was perfect for the Domestic Violence awareness theme . So many ladies silently suffer ill treatment and torture and those in contact with them often wont suspect the misery these women undergo everyday.
Some months back I got a new receptionist for my clinic .She appeared lazy and disinterested in her work, she wouldn't hear the phone ring and would walk slowly and lazily even though she was healthy and young. She left after a forth-night and afterwards we came to know why she had been so distracted ....the poor lady had an alcoholic husband who would regularly beat her up. Appearances can be so deceptive.....

Alcohol Inks Card
Well on a lighter crafty note...I didnt have purple inks to make my embellishments so used red Alcohol Ink on blue metallic card stock to make a purple Alcohol Inked background card. I used the classic color mixing formula of red + blue = Purple ; only I didn't actually mix paints but  just applied red ink on blue paper!
Since Alcohol Inks are such concentrated inks you dont have to empty the whole bottle... you just need to use 2- 3 drops Alcohol Ink + 2-3 drops Alcohol Ink Blending solution on a piece of felt to make an A4 size Alcohol Inked background !
Alcohol Inks color technique
Die cut the customized card stock using a provocraft leaf die.Since I wanted the leaves to match the crisp white embossed panels I was going to mount them on drew veins with an embossing pen and heat embossed with sparkling snow embossing powder.

I added some recycled purple netting  , lace and pearls to the lower border of the card.

Here are more uses of Alcohol Inks to Color Objects
Since Alcohol Inks can be used on multiple surface you can use them for :-
1. Coloring metallic jewelry/ charms or embellishments
Alcohol Inks Crafting
I had a silver colored heart pendant...I wanted to make it red!
Alcohol Inks crafting
You can apply Alcohol Inks directly from the bottle on to the object to be colored....just make sure you have the object on a plastic sheet as these inks stain permanently and you wouldnt want your craft table or dining table spoiled!
Alcohol Inks crafting
Alternately you can use gloved hands and smear the object with ink on the plastic sheet
2. Coloring Pearls and Crystals
Alcohol Inks Crafts
Even after coloring the heart I had quite a bit of Alcohol Ink left on the plastic sheet so I changed the color of some pearl heart embellishments I had by rolling them in the ink puddle

The red pearl hearts  look gorgeous dont they!
Though the card is very simple and I hope you liked the Alcohol Inks tips I shared

    2. Thank you for sharing your story! It is so easy for people to turn a blind eye to someone and have no idea what they are going through. I never called out, I was beaten and choked many times but still managed to go to work everyday at the hospital and i just dealt with the pain, people still needed to be taken care of and the children had to still eat... I understand her feelings and secret life.
thank you for sharing your tutorial it was great and I love your card, its very beautiful

  8. Your story was so touching and true. We never know what people are going through because DV is so often a silent problem. Women are ashamed and scared. Thank you for raising this point.
Those leaves! How fleepin' beautiful!!!! I have resisted the lure of alcoholic inks, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't go splurge. How clever to mix the red and the blue to make purple! Also - is that basket weave an embossing folder? If so, would you mind sharing the brand because I think I *need* it.

Thank you SO much for sharing your talents and raising your voice at the Hop to Stop.

  25. Your card is beautiful. I love the basket weave embossing and, of course, your gorgeous leaves. Very clever re-coloring of those hearts too. I didn't know alcohol inks were so versatile.

What a lesson in grace about that poor lady. We really do have to be careful to not judge people; we never know what is the underlying source of their behaviour.

    Blessing hugs,

  26. Oh! my goodness this is so gorgeous, you have changed the hearts into something else, love the red. Wonderful leaves and card.

The alcohol related violence is something that shouldn't be put up with, but that poor woman is losing her soul to alcohol and the related violence. I know of someone who has been in that position and in the end left him, I suppose in India it would be harder to do that? I pray she has some help soon.

    1. Oh yes it is very hard for a lady of lower socioeconomic status to leave her husband without family support in our country. And for that matter even educated ones though things are much better than they were some decades ago

  34. Yeah, I found your site!! What a fantastic card! I love the shimmery metalic leaves. 'The different angles do help them shine! I was an occupational health nurse and it is true, if the family life is not good, employees work changes. They cannot concentrate on their job and thier mind is focused on their situation. It is unfortunate your receptionist left..I hope her situation changed. It is hard though, usually here is a sense of worthlessness.

  44. Very interesting to realize the alcohol works so well over metallic cardstock. The embossed leaf vines looks splendid. If you have soda cans, that salvaged metal (careful, as edges can be sharp and need a brush with sanding block) works well with the inks, diecutting and embossing. Good to know the pearls can be colored this way too. I use copics to change the colors, but never thought of the alcohol ink! Thanks!
