Recipe Card Holder Tutorial

Recipe Card Holder
Hi friends, sharing a special 3 D project I made on  the theme "Baking" which is the fun theme this forthnight at the Cuttlebugmania Challenge.
My crafty mojo has been sadly missing and life with a new puppy has just been too busy for active blogging .My mind was a blank and I had nearly abandoned hope of having a DT project ready.
I am rather old school and use cookery books and handwritten recipes especially when baking so the idea of a handmade recipe card holder appealed to me. My only concern was the time...Fortunately it was surprisingly easy to put together in a few hours  and hence I am sharing a Tutorial too as it would be a fun handmade gift to make!
Recipe Card Holder
The recipe card holder was made using chipboard , card-stock and  pretty papers. I added  metal feet to ensure the holder itself is raised above the ground. There are tabbed file folder style separators  which can be labelled based on the category of your recipe eg cookies, cakes, pies  etc.

I must admit it did turn out a tad too pretty to risk actually using it and getting the inevitable flour and butter on it![My daughter loves to bake with me and together we are a pretty messy pair of cooks!]
Recipe Card Holder
The beautiful  cake was made using a Poppy Stamps die and glitter foam and the apron, rolling pin and whisk were made using Creative Expressions dies.
Recipe Card Holder
The cupcake image is from Graphic 45 and I used  a gorgeous resin cupcake  disc on it! All the beautiful flowers are foamiran roses I made using this Tutorial : Foamiran rose Tutorial

Recipe Card Holder Tutorial
This is a rather easy project and you can adapt the idea to make a birthday reminder folder, to do list holder etc. And do tweak the  sizes to suit your needs.
Materials
The materials you need are very basic:
1.Chipboard- optional if you want a sturdy project otherwise recycle a cardboard box or use card stock.
2.Cardstock- not too thick as you need to be able to accordion fold it
3.Pattern paper
4.Scissors, Glue and optional Scoring board and Bone folder
Recipe Card Holder Tutorial
3 Pieces of chipboard measuring : 6 x 6 inches [back]; 3.5 x 6 inches [front] and 2 x 6 inches[ base/bottom]

Recipe Card Holder Tutorial
3 Pieces of Cardstock measuring : 6 x 6 inches[ base accordion], 3 x 6 inches [side panel accordion] and 3 x 6 inches [side panel  accordion]

Recipe Card Holder Tutorial
Score the cardstock pieces every 1/2 inch as shown and accordion fold the pieces.
Recipe Card Holder Tutorial
Cover your chipboard pieces with pattern paper and decorate the front panel[ measuring 3.5 x 6 inches] as you wish.
Recipe Card Holder Tutorial

Glue one half inch flap of the 6 x 6 inch accordion folded cardstock to the lower part of your 6 x 6 back panel chipboard
Recipe Card Holder Tutorial
Similarly glue the side panel accordions on the sides of your back panel chipboard as shown below.
Recipe Card Holder Tutorial
After you add the side panel accordions on both the sides... bridge the accordions with the lower one ...Since you need not actually glue the side and bottom accordions to each other all the way it is fiddly...just be patient!
Lastly apply glue only to the top most flaps so that you get a pocket style accordion as shown below.
Recipe Card Holder Tutorial
Glue the front panel to this accordion pocket and finally glue the base chipboard in such a way that it sticks to the back and front chipboard...use a good adhesive and strips of cardstock to help glue the base which is a bit tricky as the accordion will be wobbly!
Recipe Card Holder Tutorial
Optionally make tabbed separators which you can glue to the accordion holder and use free.

I hope you liked the idea and how this project turned out!

I agree I would worry about it getting flour and other things on it, but if you had a special shelf you could sit it on and only have special recipes in it, then that wouln't be so bad. Thank you so much for entering our challenge at Crafter's Castle this month....good luck :)
