Easy Felt Sewing Case Tutorial

Felt Sewing Cases
Hi friends....I hope I am not boring you with all the cups and mugs I have been posting lately...I just love these new Crealies dies !
Easy Felt Sewing Case Tutorial
These Coffee /Chocolate and Smoothie sewing cases were made with the same Crealies dies I used to make the Magnetic Shaker Bookmarks which were surprisingly a huge hit on  my facebook account and some people even wanted to buy them!

Felt Sewing Case
When making the sewing cases I kept the design pretty simply and resisted over embellishing as these are meant to be everyday use items!
They are pretty easy to make and you can even hand-cut the shapes but of course if you have the right dies it is easier and more fun!

Easy Felt Sewing Case Tutorial
First cut the mugs from thick card-stock and take a piece of Kraft tex[ Here is the link to  read more about Kraft tex] around 3.5 x 2 inches and score 3/4 inch from either side to leave a central 1/2 inch width which will form the spine of your sewing case.
Easy Felt Sewing Case Tutorial
Stick on the 3/4 inch parts of the Kraf tex to the edges of the mug as shown. If you dont have Kraft tex ,use felt / leather or any sturdy material.
Easy Felt Sewing Case Tutorial
Line the mugs and domes with felt. Make  pockets for scissors using felt and an optional folded piece of Kraft tex.

Easy Felt Sewing Case Tutorial
Apply glue to the felt+ Kraft tex and  stick inside.

Easy Felt Sewing Case Tutorial
While sticking  keep a scissors inside the pocket to ensure you dont stick on the pocket too flat or tight.

Easy Felt Sewing Case Tutorial
Add extra layers of felt to act as spots to stick in your needles and pins.
Optional Idea : Glue  the ends of a ribbon snugly  to hold a needle threader as shown below
Cup shaped Felt Sewing Case

Closure idea : Tie an elastic loop around a button and stitch or hot glue the button to a piece of felt which you will add to the front cover of your sewing case.

Easy Felt Sewing Case Tutorial
If your button has a bulky back...poke a hole in the felt piece and push the button inside it before you stick it to your cover.

The elastic loop will loop around a brad/ button attached to a piece of felt on the back part of the cover.

Easy Felt Sewing Case Tutorial
No Sew Tip : On the back side you can sew on a button or if you use a brad you can avoid sewing altogether !Just poke a hole on a piece of felt, insert your brad and stick the felt on the base....easy!

Adhesive Tip: To get a neat finish use hot glue sparingly and opt for glues such as Aleene's tacky glue, fabric glue or UHU.

The Strawberry Sewing case  was made out of slate grey , brown and  red felt

The inside is more elaborate compared to the pink case! The white object you see is my seam ripper!

This one has a polka dotted wooden heart button on the back.

And finally the Coffee Mug! I kept it very simple and used an antique style floral button on the front [ up cycled from an old dress!]

And on the inside you can see my little Tonic Tim Holtz scissors snugly fitting inside the pocket!

I hope you liked this cute idea for a handmade gift!
