| Clay Roses Tutorial |
I had promised a tutorial on
Mseal Rose Flowers and also on
Marzipan Roses.These roses are not made of Mseal or Marzipan but can you guess?
Its Playdough!

The brand of playdough I have used is available in the Indian market as AMOS- Its an international brand so should be available in many countries.Its much lighter than the regular playdough and does not crack on drying. Once it dries it maintains its shape.Compared to the regular childrens playdough its more expensive. So though I actually first bought it for my daughter I end up playing with it more!

Its wonderful for making lightweight and durable embellishments for home decor,cardmaking,jewellry making etc.

How to make Playdough / Mseal /Marzipan Roses
- Take a small ball of dough around 1.5 cm diameter ball is enough for a 2 cm large rose flower.Knead well. Whatever the medium you are working with, adequate kneading is important for a good finish.
- Pinch off a small ball as shown.
- Roll this into an elongated shape.With Marzipan no need to make it as long as I have shown here.

Start rolling this elongated shape in a spiral from one end to make the central part of your rose.

Pinch off some dough with your fingers as shown- you will get a petal shaped piece.While using Mseal or Marzipan flatten a well kneaded small ball to get the petal.

Layer your petal around the center of the rose.

Shape small leaves from balls and attach to your Rose.

My little one likes to do whatever craft I do and these are the Roses she made using regular playdough. I was so amazed as I didnt even teach her but she made them on her own just watching her " Amma"

Sonia, the roses are so beautiful and I see your daughter does a gorgeous job, too. I had to look online to find what ingredients are used to make marzipan. Very interesting. Maybe I'll try that sometime. I do love new techniques.

ReplyDeleteI guessed it right! Knew it was play dough! Brilliant idea! I used to do this but with ceramic dough. Try that, it will give you wonderful results.

ReplyDeletePlaydough hardens on its own? I have never used playdough though i assumed it to be never-hardens type, which is popular for kids..

Kishley playdough hardens even if you dont close the lid properly ! This is a subject where I become nagging mom to my daughter. I keep telling her to store away her playdough as otherwise it hardens and cant be reused well.
