Hi friends many of you who visit my blog know that I am an ENT Surgeon and crafting is just a hobby for me. And even though in recent years so many craft events and courses have been conducted in India...I have never been able to attend.Unlike many families in India mine is a nuclear family and if I have to travel anywhere alone it is a herculean task to delegate even half of my responsibilities! Many of you know I have 2 dogs too and so well...you get the idea!!
Recently Shalini Mittal , the owner of
Crafters Corner announced that designers from a famous International company
Cadence were coming to India to conduct a workshop on Home Decor Projects. My whole family encouraged me to attend seeing how much my heart was set on it and so off I flew to Delhi, the capital of India where the course was conducted!
I struggled with a recurrent attacks of dizziness due to postural hypotension [low Blood pressure ] but somehow managed to make some gorgeous projects.

Flower Pot |
The first one was a rustic grungy flower pot made by altering a humble fabric pouch! It has layers and layers of special paints and media from Cadence and can you see the gorgeous shimmering gold in the closeup picture below!

Flower Pot |
One of my favourite projects was designing Cushion covers. I have worked with fabric paints before but the Cadence paints were simply amazing...shimmery and velvety and oooh so easy to work with.
|
Designer Cushions |
This particular cushion has stencilling with multiple types of fabric paints from Cadence, gold foiling and even fabric transfer.
|
Designer Cushions |
The best thing about the course was that the designer Gulen[ a very very talented artist from Turkey] just demonstrated the steps and gave tips and the crafters followed along putting their twist to it so in the end everyone's project looked different!
|
Designer Cushions |
The background on this cushion cover was created using a stencil and 4 colours of gorgeous shimmering fabric paint ...blending the colours to merge with each other was the trick!
In the closeup you can see the shimmer!
|
Designer Cushions |
The mamma and baby owl and all the butterflies are fabric transfers from Shalini's own brand Dress My Craft and were a delight to work with after a short learning curve!
|
Designer Bag |
The designer tote bag you see above was such an easy project to make but the one I loved the most because of its sheer simplicity and vibrancy! One of the most useful products during the course was the Cadence stencil spray and though many of my fellow crafters did not use it I for one found it indispensable ...it made life so much easier and gave more professional results while working with a stencil on a fabric base!
The candle stand was made by altering a really huge wine glass with special Cadence snow paste, holographic paint and subtle glittering.
|
Candle stand |
The gorgeous lace on the base was made using a special type of transfer sheet.
|
Painted Candle |
The candle was initially pretty dull but jazzed up with Cadence candle paint.
One of the classes was altering a pair of jeans/ T shirt or trousers.
|
Altered Trousers |
I had a velvet green trouser and loved the effect of working on it with different variety of artistic techniques
Once again Gulen just guided us and each crafter put her own spin on it! My daughter loved it sooo much and here you can see her modelling it.
|
My Model |
One of the most popular projects was an altered Vicotrian Box.
|
Victorian Box |
This was the most elaborate and technique packed project and one I think each crafter was super proud of.
|
Victorian Box |
We started off with a plain MDF box and created a real work of art. It even smells beautiful !!!
|
Victorian Box |
And here you can see all the girls with Shalini [Owner of Crafters Corner and organiser of the event], Gulen [ the artist and teacher]and Ozlem[ the owner of Cadence] . I am the rather dazed but happy looking one wearing red [ on the right side]!
|
Crafty Feast |
The 3 day event had 2 days of learning 8 projects and one of partying!
We were gifted goodies from some pretty big international and national sponsors! Each of us got gifts from Sizzix, Spellbinders ,Tonic, Ranger, Heartfelt creations ,Cadence, Bob n Betty, Dress My Craft .. and there were many fun games where you got to win even more prizes!
|
Gifts and Winnings |
The cute little spice bottles you see are a special gift Shalini gave to girls in her design team!
|
Gift for Crafters Corner DT |
It was my first time going to such a big event in the crafty world...Shalini was an amazing host, had a battalion of staff to take care of even the minutest points during the classes and took utmost care to ensure everyone had fun along with learning!
|
Certificate |
Some of my most cherished and special memories were meeting Shalini, fellow teamies from Crafters Corner, talented crafters from all over India at the event and some special crafty friends who came to meet us at the hotel.
