Quilled Photoframe |
Dear friends Thank you so much for the encouraging comments on my first water-coloring attempt in the Baby theme box ! It has really helped to boost my morale !! Every year my daughter and I sit down to make something for her teachers for Teachers day which is celebrated on Sept 5 in India. Last year I was quite overwhelmed as I made more than 10
CD case notebooks and got thoroughly stressed! So this year for teachers day, undertook an easier craft- handmade photoframes !We recycled desktop calendars into easy DIY photoframes [see tutorials :
Photoframe tutorial 1,
Photoframe tutorial 2,
Photoframe tutorial 3,
Easy Picture frame tutorial ].
|
Quilled flowers |
My little girl played an active role in making this particular one. The original base was a dull blue and none of our flowers and embellishments seemed to match it so I gave my ink pad to my kiddo and she randomly inked the blue corrugated paper frame base with purple!I had made these quilled flower buds some time back so just adding some pollens and stamped leaves helped us to quickly make our photoframe.
|
Quilled Photoframe |
For a dash of white to balance all the pink and purple added some lacey hearts with a few pearls to notch up the oomph factor!
|
Foam roses |
The pink roses are made from foam [ you all know how much I adore foam!!] and the leaves are cut from glittery card using the Cheery Lynn flourish leaf die.The stem is a diamond chain salvaged from a dress[ you have seen it in
Sunflower layout and
Fairyland diorama and will be seeing more if it till I strip the whole chain from my dress!! LOL ]
|
Quilled Photoframe |
The pink flower was made my layering several flower layers like in this
easy paper flower tutorial
|
Quilled Photoframe |
In this side view you can see the photoframe standing on its own. What I have seen is that though we crafters can admire and drool over cards like crazy, non-crafters seems to appreciate gifts with a bit of utility function like a photoframe, a post it note holder etc much more than cards ! ......Please do share your experience about this ?
Supplies-
Dies : Heartfelt creations leaf, Marianne fence, Spellbinders lace hearts,Itsy Bitsy scallop daisy, Cheery Lynn flourish leaf strip, Cheery Lynn butterfly,Sizzix flower layer 2.
Stamps: Heartfelt creations leaf
Very beautiful "

DeleteWhat a wonderful idea, Dr. Sonia, to make photo frames and I'm sure they will be put to good use. I do love your foam and paper flowers and the diamond chain from your dress is super recycling. Your daughter did a fab job with the purple coloring. It's a gorgeous frame.

Deletewhat a pretty transformation - yours daughter's teachers would love them. I think that a good design should not be just about form, it should be about function too
ReplyDeleteYes Divya...I find that photoframes especially are so much appreciated and I even had one of the teachers requesting my little girl to make her a photoframe as long back we had made one for her!

DeleteThe teachers at your school must all fight every year to find out who gets Prisha. This is sweet and your flowers are gorgeous. How thoughtful you are. Hugs, Teresa
ReplyDeleteTeresa last year I didnt write that the CD case notebooks we made at home were recycled and one of the teachers gave it back to my daughter saying the school policy didnt allow them to accept " expensive" gifts!! So this year I made sure I wrote clearly that they were recycled and we didnt have any issues!!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much Hania...am off to your blog
DeleteWhat struck me the most was when you said a photo frame gift is often more appreciated than a card. I couldn't agree more. This is a perfect example of a gift for someone you have never met. It is both romantic and welcoming. I was super impressed with your recycling efforts, too. Ideal example for Moo Mania's recycle challenge.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much ...yes many people want something " useful" and not just beautiful !!
