Sharing how to make a Castle Shaped Pop up Slider Card.[Click on the pictures for a detailed view]
Materials Required
This is an easy card to make which does not require any fancy tools.
Basic Supplies
Card Stock -Sturdy card stock is a must.Handmade paper will not give as neat an effect in this slider card.
Craft-knife, Scissors,Scale
Cutting mat  [or kitchen cutting board]
Double Sided Foam tape,Glue

If you want to jazz it up a bit..
Big Shot /Other Die cutting Machine
Embossing folders : I used Itsy Bitsy spots folder and Itsy Bitsy swirls.
Dies : to make the castle door [Itsy Bitsy Nesting dies] and domes [Scallop circles]
Punches : Square
Materials Required
Measurements are not really important for this type of card but to make things easier giving approximate measurements.
You need card stock for the front, base and slider piece. For the front of the castle card...take half of an A 4 card [or 6 x 8 1/4 ]

Pop Up slider Card
Use a ruler and craft knife to cut 2 vertical lines from either edge leaving at least 1 inch from the top and bottom edge as shown.Join the 2 vertical cuts horizontally at the lower ends as shown in the slider tutorial
Pop Up slider Card
Score horizontally to join the upper ends of the vertical cuts or use a scale to fold up the flap as shown.Fold down this flap in half as shown.
Pop Up slider Card
The front of your slider card will look like this now. Take a slider piece of approx
 8 1/4  ½ inch and fold up one edge[approx 1/2 to 3/4 inch]
Pop Up slider Card
This step is optional: I wanted to make my slider a castle fort so chopped off rectangles 1/2 x 2 inches from the top edges as shown
Pop Up slider Card
Attach the lower folded tab of the slider to the back of the vertical cut flap as shown.
Pop Up slider Card
If you plan to emboss your card front do so before attaching the slider pieces.Keep the lower part of the central vertical flap un-embossed  by keeping it outside your embossing folder as embossing tends to weaken most cardstocks and you want the central flap sturdy!
Pop Up slider Card
For  the Pop up piece ..you can stamp, quill, draw or cut out a castle shape like I did. From a 4 x 5 inch pearl pink card stock I marked 1 inch from either edge and chopped off 1/2 x 2 inch rectangles . Further chopped off a part of the central rectangle to get my castle shape..do whatever appeals to you!
Pop Up slider Card
To further decorate your pop up castle..do whatever you fancy but dont make it too bulky or your castle wont stand up well!
Pop up Castle
I  die cut a door in my castle and then embossed it  using the spots embossing folder.I die cut and embossed scallop circles to make the domes of the  castle card.Simple triangles would work just as well for the castle domes!
Pop Up slider Card
The glue dots came in handy sticking the domes to the castle[ you need a bit of  patience if you use regular glue on embossed card stock!]
Pop Up slider Card
Punched out squares on a 1 inch width pearl card stock to make my castle accents which were stuck to the castle with double sided foam!
Pop Up slider Card
Stick on the castle to the front of the lower half of the central flap
Pop Up slider Card
On the back of the castle card stick double sided foam tape on the lower edge and sides as shown.Leave enough gap near the central flap so that your slider can move freely.Stick it to a same size or larger base card.
Castle shaped card
Do not stick too tightly as you need a bit of gap between your base and top card for the slider to move freely.

My daughter loves pink and purple so that was what heavily influenced the colors of this castle shaped pop up slider card!

Rapunzel Pop up Card

Rapunzel Pop up card
Dear  friends  I am sure that every little girl [and the not so little ones too] who saw the Disney movie Tangled was enchanted by Rapunzel's character !
Sharing a Tangled theme pop up card I had made with a pop up tower and Rapunzel jumping down from the tower on to the waiting horse.
Princess Pop Up card 2

I found the hero  Flynn Rider quite charming and had to add him dashing through the woods!
Used corrugated card and moonstone paper to make the grassy fields in the pop up scene
On closing this interactive card  the pop up tower goes absolutely flat and the card closes flat for mailing! The type of pop up in this card is called a cylindrical pop up and is rather tricky to execute so I wont subject you to a tutorial this time!! [Also I cant seem to find the website where I got the idea from]

Origamic Architecture- Kirigami Pop Up card Castle

Origamic Architecture Kirigami pop up card
I love Kirigami pop up cards .Once you get the knack of it they are not too hard to make but you gotta love your knife in this craft!! For those unfamiliar with the term, Origamic Architecture means a 3 Dimensional reconstruction of buildings or objects by cutting and folding paper.Masaharo Chatani a Japanese architect is considered the father of this craft which came into vogue only in the 1980s.
Origamic Architecture Kirigami pop up card
This Origamic architecture pattern is from the net-I had it saved for quite some time and now cant seem to find the link  to the pattern! It originates from Ms Jackie Huang who has kindly permitted me to post this creation made using her pattern.Thank You so much Ms Huang
This Kirigami pop up castle card is  scored, folded and handcut from a single sheet of 180g photo paper. The cutting takes around 15 mins if you are at it at a stretch.I usually do my Kirigami pop up cards in bits and pieces as they need a bit of concentration! The scoring and folding was more time consuming as my pattern didn't have guidelines as to which was mountain or valley fold and I had to experiment a bit.
Somehow I find men are more fascinated with Origamic Architecture-My husband seems to love them!
If you have never tried this craft do try it you just need a craft knife , your kitchen cutting board and sturdy paper!
Just to get your interest piqued, here are some of my older Origamic architecture Kirigami Pop up cards some imperfect ,some ok ,and some like the puppy which I just love! These are different from the usual pop up cards as these involve cutting and folding of a single sheet of paper!

I hope I got your interested in this fantastic craft. Here is a link to Marivi who shares some gorgeous free patterns to try.
Tips when making an Origamic architecture card

  • If you are a beginner start with a simple pattern with not too many folds and levels
  • Score always before folding- this gives a crisp neat effect.
  • Use sturdy paper such as photo paper 180 g -220 g works well for me.
  • For practice use watercolor drawing papers- they are fairly thick and crease and hold well
  • Use a sharp craft knife [ xacto knife] - even a little blunting can jag your edges!
  • For fast cutting first cut all the lines that run in one direction[vertically or horizontally]- that way you work fairly fast.
  • I you are not sure about the accuracy of your folding in a mutlifold origamic architecture pattern- dont score the central crease- score and fold the other creases and fold over the card and let the central crease occur naturally- this is a little trick I picked up after some frustrated" not folding well" pop up cards!
I hope I have inspired you to try this craft if you have never done it before. I find its almost magical what you can do with a single sheet of paper! Do leave me your comments

Recycling Pop Up card Tutorial

Have you ever  seen a beautiful image on a calendar, cereal packet ,magazine etc and loved it so much as to want to use it on a card? The easiest option is to cut out the image and use it on your card front. How about making a pop up card ?
How would you like to turn this calendar into a fairy tale Pop Up card?

Planning your Pop Up Card
1.Cut out your images and decide how you would like to position them in your Pop up card.I have used a standard A4 sized card stock here for the base card which is folded in half and laid out as shown.
2.Once you decide on the positions, lay the pictures down flat. This step helps you to plan your Pop up card tabs and also helps ensure no picture projects out of the closed card.

Fashioning and Planning the Tabs of your Pop up Card Images
The tabs need to be made from sturdy paper. I have recycled some medication pamphlets here to make the tabs. You need to make as many tabs as you have images. The center of the images will be glued on to your tabs so you can plan your layout accordingly.
3.Measure the distance from your image to the card center.
4.Fold it up at that point. This is how much your image will pop out from your card.
5.Make the next fold to give the tab a height less than the height of your image. Now you have the two important measurements to make your square or rectangle shaped tab. For the first image the tab was square with the side measuring as much as the distance from the center of the card.
Pop Up Card Making Tutorial
6. Measure the tab lengths for the other image. Here is the measurement of the image from the center of the card
7.Next side of the tab is less than the height of the image.
8.Next side which is parallel to the card base will be equal to measurement in photo 6.Final tab is a rectangular shaped tab with last side measuring the same as measurement in photo 7

9.Measure the image pop out distance from the image to card center for the last image to pop up.
10.Next height of tab as in earlier steps. This photo is not to confuse you but just shows an easy way to ensure equal measurements of two tab sides without using a scale![I am lazy to use a scale and go freehand most of the time].

Making your Tab Support for your Pop Up card Images
Now is the easy part.Glue down your tabs!
11.Apply glue on the tab part which will go on the card base and stick it firmly in place
12.Fold your tab completely flat and apply glue on the tab surface which will stick on the other side of the card. Do not apply excess
13.Firmly close your card and hold to allow the glue to stick
14. Open and your tab is ready!
