DIY Soccer Ball Penstand Tutorial

DIY Soccer Ball Penstand

Hi friends happy to share a simple but super cute and functional project ..a Soccer Ball Penstand made with the  new Crealies  Soccer ball dies

DIY Soccer Ball Penstand Tutorial

You can see the  Soccer ball diecuts in the  picture above . The  size of the  diecuts is large enough to make a ball party decoration ,Party prop,a box, a shaped card or  a functional and unique handmade Penstand like the  one you see here.

DIY Soccer Ball Penstand Tutorial

It is pretty simple to make the  Penstand. You need just a minimum of 2 Soccer ball diecuts and a strip of thick cardstock to make the  wall. For aethestic and functional strength you can add 2 extra black circles to form the  basic framework as shown in the  picture below.
DIY Soccer Ball Penstand Tutorial

The curved wall is made using a strip of card stock with wedges cut on the  sides to enable you to easily stick the  strip in a curved fashion to the  circular sides of your Ball Penstand. Vary the  length of the  strip according to how big you want the  opening of the  penstand to be.

Once you stick the cardstock strip to the black base circles, add the  Soccer ball design diecuts.

If you want to create a partitioned Penstand , add chipboard pieces as shown below inside the  Ball.

Vary the  length of the  chipboard pieces according to your wish as it will change depending on the  angulation and placement inside the  penstand.

You can add a base to the  Ball Penstand to help make it more sturdy.
The base is made using the  same dies using cardstock and 2 layers of black craft foam.

It does look cute with the lovely watercolor pencils  arranged neatly inside doesnt it?

I have kept the  decoration simple adding just a simple" Smile" on my favourite Crealies  scroll banner diecut.

Simple Foamiran Flowers

Foamiran Flowers
Hi friends sharing an altered project with lots of handmade foam flowers made exclusively with Crealies  dies . This was originally a plastic photo frame we were gifted but I wanted to alter it and make it more cheerful and lively.
Handmade Foamiran Flowers
The flowers are simple easy to make ones and I really love the  new foliage dies from Crealies  ...they are so delicate and were perfect for this particular project.
Handmade Foamiran Flowers
I didnt use the  iron to shape the  foam while making the  flowers as I wanted to make a bunch of flowers quickly but I did jazz them up with a sprinkling of glitter!
Handmade Foamiran Flowers
I used pretty papers from Lemoncraft inside the  photo-frame. The white corner design on the  frames were made with new Crealies  dies and though delicate and intricate they cut beautifully !

Star Effect Cards

Star Effect Cards
Hi friends it feels nice to blog after a hiatus. I had injured my hand and was unable to craft but now I am much better and sharing a simple but fun card called the  Star Effects card.
These 3 Dimensional cards are easy to make and you just need a 6 x 6 piece of pattern paper to make it!The  component parts  slot into each other to create a dimensional card which can be sent in the  mail too!
Dress My Craft Magical Unicorns
I used the  Magical Unicorns papers and dicut motifs from Dress My Craft to make this gorgeous card for my daughter as a form of encouragement during exam season [she is having her final exams now and is working really hard!]
Floral Guitar Dies
I used the  Floral Guitar dies from Dress My Craft to create the  gorgeous delicate guitars in this card. They are a set of 2 dies which can be layered to create beautiful designs! You can either ink the  background die or cut it out of a different colored paper to bring out the  beauty of the  2 layered guitar!
Floral Guitar Die Cuts
I chose background colors of the  guitars to match the  colors in the  pattern paper and added cute unicorns and  whimsical castles to create a Magical Star Effects Card.
Star Effect Cards
The 2nd card is more sober and was in fact my first experiment with this style of card and I made it for my husband as he loves music and flowers!
Star Effect Card
I used papers from DCWV and the  lovely guitar dies to make this Star Effects Card.

Star Shaped Box and Card

Star Shaped Box
Hi friends..have you ever bought something  because you were attracted to the box or packaging! Hehe I have been guilty of that on more than one occasion! And following on that trail of thought...presenting to you a unique handmade Star shaped gift box perfect to hold chocolates and even jewellery!

Star Shaped Box
Making a shaped box is time consuming especially if it is a unique shape but it is so much easier if you have nesting dies to make your job quicker.I made this box using the new Crealies Crea Nest Lies XXL No 89 dies.
The lid is made using foam, card stock and pattern paper and the glass knob you see on the lid is actually a tiny glass mini vase!

I made a simple star shaped card to go inside the box!

How to make a Neuron Model

Neuron Model
Hi friends it's been a long time since I posted any  of my daughter's school projects .Of late most of the time they are made in such a  hurry that I either forget to take pictures or they are made at night so I end up with grainy blurry pictures not worth sharing!
But this one was made completely by my kiddo with no help at all from me and I do have some decent pictures to share with all of you!
Neuron Model
Can you believe some  of the  popular posts on my blog include  "How to make a Tooth Model" and "How to make a Respiratory System Model"!
So in case  you landed on this page by googling " how to make a neuron model" let me run you through the creative process so that you can make a neuron of your own!!

Draw/Pint/Trace a Neuron
My daughter is 12 yrs and is quite good at drawing so she looked at the picture of the neuron in her Biology text book and drew a large neuron freehand. If you find free hand drawing challenging ...lightly trace or print the picture of a neuron
Neuron Model
Make it dimensional using lightweight media
To make a dimensional model on paper use thick paper as your base and avoid very heavy materials on top. If you have light weight clay such as Amos clay or Sakura clay you can make your structure using clay like in this Tooth Model we made long back.
For this model my daughter used different colors of hot glue! The cellbody and the dendrites were made using white hot glue. It is tricky to get the hot glue drawn into the thin dendrites so if you are not confident with hot glue do practise getting thin lines first and avoid hot glue altogether with young children!
The nucleus in the cell body was created by sticking on a red spiny pompom!
Neuron Model
The central part of the axon[axoplasm] was made using a plastic tube filled with beads and sealed at both ends. A word of advice here...avoid seed beads as they are too tiny and don't move around well. The beads my daughter used here are inexpensive but medium weight beads which roll within the axoplasm and are wonderful to give the illusion of a nerve impulse travelling down the axon!
Neuron Model
The yellow myelin sheath of the axon was again created using hot glue. The end of the  plastic tubing was split using scissors into multiple filaments to make the axon terminals and the synaptic bulbs was created using pink pom poms!
This project was a big hit in class and not only did kiddo score full marks but it was displayed on the board in her class [ which is a big deal according to her!]
