Hi friends...sharing a fun and adorable 3 D Pop Up Card featuring a mermaid swimming amongst the dolphins in the bubbly blue ocean!
3 D snowglobe Card
This is a 4 layered 3 D card which folds completely flat for mailing / storage and stands beautifully for display.
3 D snowglobe Card
When I first shared this design of a 3 D Snowglobe Card I got so many requests for a Tutorial so for the Tutorial post , instead of making the same card again...I varied the theme , keeping the mechanism the same.
3 D Snwoglobe Card Tutorial
Diecut 2-4 snowglobe shapes depending on how many layers you want. Keep one as it is if you want to stamp on the back most layer and diecut windows in the rest.
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
I stamped a mermaid [ from Whimsy stamps]on the back-most snowglobe layer and created a seagreen and turqoise background for her and stamped in a few bubbles[using a Crealies stamp] .The little mermaid was colored with Zig Watercolor Brush Pens and glittered in places to give a magical shimmer
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
Add acetate to the snowglobe diecuts with windows. Acetate helps give strength to the layers and is a nice backdrop to stick your diecut/ stamped embellishments.
I dressed up Memory Box waves and dolphins with Distress Inks and added them to 2 snowglobe layers.
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
I didn't have any seaweeds but this Heartfelt creations fish stamp had such nice flowing fins which were snipped and used as seaweeds for my little mermaid to swim amongst!
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
Keep all your elements flat and dont add too many big diecuts/ stamped images.
Once you have decorated all your layers you can assemble them. Here is how you make the connecting pop up mechanism
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
You need one pair of tabs to connect one pair of snowglobes. For a 4 layered 3 D snowglobe you need to make 6 tabs each measuring 1¼ x 1½ inches. Score on the 1½ inch side every ½ inch and fold on the scorelines as shown below.
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
Stick on the pop up tabs as shown on the base of the snowglobe. Position it in such a way that it doesn't jut beyond the margins . The tabs are glued in such a way that their open end faces inside
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
Fold both the tabs towards one side and check again for any jutting edges- correct if anything protrudes beyond the edges.
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
Apply glue to both the tabs as shown below and stick on the next snowglobe layer.
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
When sticking keep the snowglobes in line and gently stick the top layer. And next to get a good secure adhesion and to ensure a perfect pop up mechanism...slide the top layer which you had gently stuck on the tabs underneath towards the side and press---this will take the inside tabs to the side too and ensure a good flat folding 3 D card.
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
Add the next 2 snowglobe layers in exactly the same way by sticking the tabs.
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
The tabs work in such a way that the snowglobe layers will fold flat to both the sides.
3 D snowglobe Card Tutorial
This mechanism can be adapted to create any shaped 3 D card not just a snowglobe but is especially effective in the Snowglobe shape. You can also vary the number of layers and make one with just 2 layers if you like.
3 D snowglobe Card
The beautiful wavy design on the outermost layer was created by cutting a card embossed with the Crafters Companion Ornate Lace 3 D Embossing Folder.
I hope you liked this 3 D card Tutorial and Mermaid themed Snwoglobe .

Hi friends, Sharing my DT project for Crealies showcasing their gorgeous rubber stamps.I made a Pop Up Box card with more than a dozen stamped flowers swaying beautifully in a burlap covered Pop Up Basket !
Pop Up Garden Card Tutorial
When you want to quickly color a bunch of images without spending hours together watercoloring is a fabulous option! And heat embossing the images before watercoloring makes it even easier to keep the colors within the lines.
I stamped and heat embossed the images in gold and watercolored them using Zig Watercolor Brush Pens .
These are the Crealies stamps I used. I love the delicate designs and quality of the Crealies stamps!
Pop Up Garden Card Tutorial
Later fussy cut out the flowers ...you dont have to be super accurate when making such a card as you can use a bit of green between the leaves and flowers to mimic foliage.
Pop Up Garden Card Tutorial
Pop Up Box Cards are fun designs you can adapt to suit your theme. I conceptualized a basket of flowers with a rustic look and so made a horizontal boxthe Here are the dimensions on instructions to make this one.
You will need Card stock :two pieces 7 x 2 inches and two pieces 5.5 x 2 or slightly less than two inches
Score the long 7 inch strips at 1/2 and 2.5 inch from one end
Score the short strips at 1/2 and 5 inch
Pop Up Garden Card Tutorial
Fold the long pieces as shown below.
Pop Up Garden Card Tutorial
Stick the short tab as shown- use good strong adhesive.
Pop Up Garden Card Tutorial
Stick the short tab of the other strip to complete a box. Fold the box down to make sure your gluing is correct and you have a structure which folds perfectly flat
Pop Up Garden Card Tutorial
Take the scored short strips and fold the side tabs in opposite directions- this tiny step will make your Pop Up Card more sturdy.
Pop Up Garden Card Tutorial
Glue one tab inside the box as shown , apply glue to the other tab
Pop Up Garden Card Tutorial
Before the glue dries, fold the box flat so that the tab will stick perfectly to the opposite side
Pop Up Garden Card Tutorial
Stick the other strip in the similar way
Pop Up Garden Card Tutorial
Your Pop Up Card is ready to embellish!
You can use strips of acetate to stick the flowers and add them to your Pop Up Card dividers. The pearl sprigs were simply wound around the dividers and sway beautifully as the card folds and unfolds!
Hello friends, Thank you so much for all the Anniversary wishes you showered upon me in my last blogpost " Mini Album Tutorial " . Sharing a trio of 3 D Christmas tags made as my DT project for Maureen's Rudolph Days Challenge!
3 D Pop Up Tags
The 3 D tags/mini cards feature a pop up staircase which can fold flat. 2 of the tags feature an adorable Santa standing on the steps of a staircase . The holly leaves and poinsettias are from a stamp set gifted to me by Maureen.
Watercoloring
I stamped and gold embossed the images and after water-coloring with Zig Watercolor Brush Pens gave a wash of gold using Gansai Tambi watercolors! Love the look!
3 D Pop Up Tags
The 2nd tag has a golden staircase with a cute Christmas robin made with Dee's Distinctively Winter Robin die again a gift from Maureen. Made the tree using handmade paper and foam as a backing.
3 D Pop Up Tag Tutorial
I bought the newly launched Graphic 45 square tag die and used it to make the frame for all the tags. Embossed a square of white card stock to layer over it. The staircase I used was diecut using a Memory Box die but I think there are quite a few companies who manufacture staircase dies.
Here is how I made the staircase dimensional....leave a strip of cardstock to the die cut
3 D Pop Up Tag Tutorial
I made it upside down for the next step which is scoring. Score at 1/2 inch intervals to get four 1/2 inch segments and cut off the extra card-stock.
3 D Pop Up Tag Tutorial
Fold at the score lines and glue the last segment behind your staircase...you get a nice pop up 3 D structure which you can glue to your cards/ tags!
3 D Pop Up Tag Tutorial
I hope you liked this easy idea to make a pop up element...it can be adapted to any theme!
