Boxed Card Tutorial |
Doll Card |
This Russian doll was inspired from a card I saw on Papercraft Inspirations. Her hair and eyes are hand drawn with black glitter glue. The rose is hand made using hearts [ here is the link to the heart punch flower] and the leaves have been cut from an old Aluminium foil takeaway box[ hence throwing in a bit of recycling]
Doll Card |
This Doll card has lots of layers and embellishments and is a birthday celebratory card for a little girl.
Doll Card |
The inside of the card has punched butterflies and since I like a bit of a "pop up" added an explosion fold. I stuck tiny punched butterflies in the shape of butterfly wings on the explosion fold. Here is the link to the explosion fold tutorial.
Explosion Fold Insert |
If you make cards with lots of layers and large flowers then fitting your creation into an envelope without crushing it is a big problem!A great solution is to make a custom size box for your card.I saw this idea first at Beccy's blog and was fascinated. This is a short tutorial to make a customized box for a card.
Box a Card Tutorial |
And since I am on a recycling spree I had to make a recycled box using this medication pamphlet! Measure the width of your card and how high you want the box to be.
The central red rectangle is slightly more than the width and length of your card by just a few millimeters. The margins all around this red rectangle are 1 inch [ slightly more than the height of your card]
Boxed card tutorial |
Once you have your measurements sorted out score and cut as shown in the photo.
Boxed card tutorial |
Glue your tabs as illustrated and you have the base of your box .
Boxed card tutorial |
I lined the box with chart paper and drew hearts and butterflies using glitter pens. You can stamp or use patterned paper. I didnt have any patterned paper big enough to cover my box so created my own patterned paper![Phew it was a chore and not something I will repeat!]
Boxed Card Tutorial |
Lay the Box base on thick paper and make your lid similar to the base only the central rectangle is slightly bigger by a few millimeters and the margins are smaller[ margins will be the height of the lid ]
Boxed card tutorial |
I cut out an oval from the center of the lid using a craft knife and stuck a floral patterned plastic sheet inside[ a bit of recycling again - the plastic cling was from a bouquet of fresh flowers someone had given us].The red rose is handmade using a 5 petal flower. The green leaves have been cut from a old packet of dates[ the same box I used in my earlier Recycled Photoframe]
Boxed Card Tutorial |
Recycled elements in this project
Silver Flower Leaves- Takeaway Aluminium foil box
Card Box base-Medication Pamphlet
Card Lid plastic- Plastic flower wrap
Green Flower Leaves- recycled box of dates.
Though I made this as a recycled project it was a pain to line the box as I didn't have patterned paper so if you dont have any paper to line the box use thick card stock to make the box.
Do tell me how you like this card- box project.

I love this card very much. The cute experssion in doll's face with your creative work makes it an excellent way to wish the special one on their special day. The explosion fold idea is superb! The laces outlining the doll reminds me of the rangoli designs. Superb card! Do we get such punching machines in India? I tried in my local store but it seems they are not aware of it.

ReplyDeleteThis is just too cute! Such a sweet card and box!
ReplyDeleteThis is totally awesome! What a fabulous idea. It drives me crazy when the card is too big and does not fit in an envelope. Sometimes our cards can get so fancy that they are gifts just by themselves. This is a perfect solution. Wrote down all the instructions and will for sure use this. Thank you for another great tip and tutorial:) Sending hugs all the way from the U.S.!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful card and box. Love the red trim and the pearls you used on the doll. So creative to join the card with an explosions fold. Love the flower on the box too.
