Shell Craft - Altered Photo Frame and Shell Bird

Shell Craft
Shells are such fun to use in crafting with kids. With young ones there are various things you can let them do- sort and arrange and even prompt them to make all sorts of creatures.
Shell Craft
Recently her grandpa sent her a big box of shells and my daughter has been having fun with them. This altered photo frame is entirely my little ones design and she had a lot of fun doing this!
Shell craft
  • Wash the shells
Shells from the beach are often grimy. When I asked my daughter to wash the shells she was so thrilled. I think all kids enjoy a splash !
Shell craft Fun
  • Dry the Shells
Its amazing how kids find pleasures even in simple things! Here is my little one drying the shells in our balcony
Shell craft
  • Plan the design
This is the photo frame I let her beautify.
Photo Frame Alteration
My daughter experimented with her design with the thoroughness of an architect !
Arranging  the Shells
  • Make your Shell Craft frame
    Shell Craft Frame
How about creating something from these shells-- perhaps a Shell Craft bird!
Shell Craft
You can use the adhesive of your choice . We used Mseal.
Shell Craft
Position your shells to make a bird's feathers, body and head.

Shell Craft
Now add a flat based shell for the feet!

Shell Craft
You can add beads or paint the eyes but I feel shells are beautiful on their own.
Shell Craft
You can use these Shell craft birds as home decor, car hanging , as an adornment in your garden-- lots of ideas!
Have fun crafting.Do leave me your comments.

  2. Oh my goodness, Dr. Sonia..this is so clever and so pretty. Your daughter is such a wonderful helper and must be learning so much about crafting and so many other things as you go. I'm sure she was thrilled that you asked her to wash those shells. All the little things like that count.
