Blogging and sharing crafty tutorials and interacting with my blog readers has always given me such joy in the past but I am rather saddened today as I found one of my photoframe tutorials published on a website with all my watermarks erased from the photos. This is the 5th time this sort of thing is happening...writing tutorials takes so much time and effort and it is so disheartening when people simply copy whole posts and post to their websites...so depressing !
Do guide....feeling rather miserable !
Update : I Contacted the admin of the offending website and they have now removed the copied article...that is some consolation!
Supplies : Dies : Spellbinders lace hearts,Spellbinders majestic labels 25, Memory Box rounded fence, Marianne bird, Sizzix Tim Holtz tattered florals, Heartfelt creations leaf,Sizzix butterfly , Cheery Lynn butterfly, Cheery Lynn fanciful flourish
Very pretty dear Sonia, Thank you for sharing with us :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
So pretty. You put so much in to everything you make
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Ann...this was an easy photoframe
DeleteWhat a beautiful photoframe. The flowers are very pretty. And I share your feeling about people who take the credit for creations they did not make. Indeed very sad. It would give me no satisfaction to share other people's creations without a link to the author or maker.
ReplyDeleteYes Wies it gave me such a sad experience...so disheartened to write tutorials
DeleteSorry that someone copied & posted your tutorial when the correct thing to do is to provide a link to your site and give credit to you. I've had the same thing happen so I know how you feel. Pretty flowers that remind me of Poppies. Like the embossed Butterfly.
ReplyDeleteMelissa
"Sunshine HoneyBee"
Yes Melissa...when it happened earlier I tried not to let it affect me but in a span of weeks this is the 3rd time and this time by a big domain website....I dont even feel like taking the trouble to complain!! So depressing
DeleteLovely frame dear..the blooms are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lavina
Deletethis is so pretty Sonia!! lovely flowers.. sharing without the owners knowledge is so bad!!! how do they remove the watermark?
ReplyDelete-Berina
Moxie Craftie
Yes Berina its happening very frequently now that this blog is showing up in search engines more and more. And its actually quite easy to remove watermarks though most people who copy dont bother about that too!!
DeleteThis is absolutely gorgeous, Sonia!! The frame looks amazing!! I love the beautiful flowers!! All of the details are perfect!!
ReplyDeleteUgh, I can't believe someone stole your tutorial and published it as their own. That is so horrible and mean. It's sad that things like that happen among fellow crafters. Maybe you should make your watermark larger and cover more of your design so it's not so easy to erase. I'm sorry it happened to you my friend. Hugs!!
Lisa
A Mermaid's Crafts
Lisa...I dont think it was not done by a crafter this time as it was published on a big site and they have taken care to erase my watermark from each photo on the tutorial . When crafters copy and publish most times they dont bother to remove the watermark. 2 times people published the whole tutorial with link back even though that is also not correct if permission was not taken. You are right about making a larger watermark-- I was thinking on the same lines too but it will remove so much from the aesthetics of the photo.Thank you so much for the support Lisa...only a fellow blogger can understand what I feel
DeleteGorgeous photoframe Sonia..Loz
ReplyDeleteThank you Loz
DeleteI am so sorry to hear that has happened to you not just once but many times. I always enjoy reading your tutorials and appreciate the time and effort you have spent making them. I hope this will not put you off. hugs mrs A.
ReplyDeleteYes Mrs A I was feeling very dejected as it was done by a big website...so shameful of them. Earlier it used to be small bloggers and I would ignore it
DeleteLove this project- the butterflies and flowers are amazing- love the pom flower centers- so cool!
ReplyDeleteThank you Shelly...yes the shimmery pom poms were lying unloved as they didnt fit other projects but were just perfect as flower centers!!
DeleteWhat a pretty, pretty frame. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Monica
Deletewow!!! Another master piece. beautiful. Felt very bad stole your tutorials.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Litasha...yes left a bad feeeling
Deletewow!!! Another master piece. beautiful. Felt very bad someone stole your tutorials.
ReplyDeleteGreat project. The flowers are lovely and so is the butterfly.I am so sorry to hear about the copying.I have no suggestions to make.I agree that a large watermark will just spoil the picture but I can't think of any other solution.Don't let it discourage you though.Keep doing what you do,that is your strength and nobody can take that away from you.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Pallavi for the kind words..I have ignored a little bit of copying in the past as sometimes people did it in ignorance but this was too much ...someone had gone to all the trouble to erase all watermarks and links and that too I am sure it was not a crafter!
DeleteHi Sonia, this is a lovely frame in your fav pink !!! It indeed is bad that people steal other's work, I think you should name the site and let everyone know as this may not have been the first time they did something like this !! I know you put so much effort into a tute making it easy to follow !! I have seen your pics posted by others on the fevicryl Hobby Ideas FB page too !!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suman. I am purposely not naming the site as they are doing all this to get traffic from google so that they earn money from ads on their site and the funny thing when I contacted them was they wrote to me saying send us the link we will link to you...that was not the point at all so I asked them to take the whole post down and they did! About FHI...well that can be forgiven in my book...some poor soul sharing to get likes!!
DeleteWow! loved the way you have recycled :)
ReplyDeleteSad to learn about that incident. But yes the gud part is that they have removed. I don't know why people are rigid in giving credits! huh!
Thank you Shivani...I wait for the year to end so that I get more calendars to recycle!! Yes Shivani yesterday I found 3 separate websites with photos from my blog with no credit and the whole tutorial steal was the most depressing one!
Deletewhy must people do that! I am happy that the offender removed what is not "their" work and honored your request. Unfortunately there are creeps out there, but your loyal followers know you and all your hard work! Your recycled calendar frame is gorgeous!!! :)
ReplyDeletehugs to you Sonia and happy almost weekend.
Lisa x
Thank you so much Lisa...I blog for fun and create for fun and still felt very bad...It must be all the more frustratingwhen it happens to crafters who spend hours designing work professionally only to have someone steal photos of their work
DeleteVery pretty photoframe.
ReplyDeleteThank you Elly
DeleteYes, even my blogposts are copied many times. It really hurts. Shameless people yaar.
ReplyDeleteDoc,I love your tutorials I have learned many things from you. Thank you so much :)
I remember Ranjana what happened to you...that was worse than mine...the person had copied your whole blog!
DeleteLovely photo frames , and loved the tutorials .
ReplyDeleteThank you Motidana
DeleteThis is another beautiful project. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I know how much goes into writing tutorials, it's hard. I've never mastered that part of creating. I always appreciate when an artist has a tutorial for us. It's the "few" bad apples that are going to ruin things for the rest of us. If I visit a site and find out they have stolen someone else's work, I no longer have anything to do with them.
ReplyDeleteStephanie yes it was so upsetting and it is happening with increasing frequency nowadays
DeletePhoto frame is pretty Dr Sonia.. love the die cut flowers and the shiny pompoms.. how can some one name others creations and hard work as their own..soo bad.. Dr Sonia make larger watermark on image ..
ReplyDeleteThank you Radhika...yes larger more strategically placed watermarks seem to be the way forward but it is saddening since any watermark can be erased if someone is determined !
DeleteSimple and adorable, loved your idea of recycling a desktop calendar :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jabaslin
DeleteThe photo frame is so pretty...sad to hear about the incident Dr. Sonia...People should respect other people's work and skills...
ReplyDeleteI am new to blogging...reading this makes me think that I should start adding signatures or watermark to my pics...
Purvi do read my post on basic blogging tips-- I have written about blogpost photos too
DeleteSo creative, totally beautiful, and very useful. I love the flowers and greenery.
ReplyDeleteI saw one of my cards on Etsy once. Everything was exactly like mine. Too bad people do that. I know your tutorials are very time consuming and this has to make you upset and sad. I'm sorry that happened.
Yes Brenda...this sort of thing is happening all too frequently in the creative field and it is so disheartening
DeleteBeautiful; gorgeous flowers and butterfly. Hugs & smiles, Teresa
ReplyDeleteThank you Teresa
DeleteAs to your situation, what a silly lot of trouble that person went to when she could have just copied a link to your tutorial. It must be a very troubled person who needs to pretend to be something she is not in order to feel better about herself.
ReplyDeleteHa Ha Teresa your words make me smile...yes it was in a way idiotic isnt it...a link would be the easiest way to do it but they went to all the trouble to steal the whole writeup and erase the watermarks!! And the funny bit is they have a big "Copyright" mark on their website!!
DeleteWhat a beautiful photo frame, Dr. Sonia! Who would not LOVE using that to show off their lovely photos. hugs, de
ReplyDeleteSUCH a gorgeous frame design Sonia!! I am loving your series of these darling frames and the completed project will be a treasure!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing ALL of your crafty knowledge and I concur with Teresa. I hate hearing about these things happening to my blog friends. Glad you stood your ground! HUGS to you.
Vicki...I love to recycle the desktop calendars into photoframes...they make awesome gifts too.
DeleteI'm sorry that some people has stolen your tutorial. It often happens and it is a shame. Who steals it's very poor of spirit and ideas...
ReplyDeleteYour foto frame is gorgous! The corrugate paper looks great with the corner doodles and the embellishments
Thank you so much for the supportive words. I love corrugated paper and Especially use it to make photoframes as it has a wonderful give and makes it very easy to slip photos in and out
DeleteSuch a GORGEOUS photo frame Sonia! Wow, the details are fabulous:)
ReplyDeleteSherrie K
Thank you so much Sherrie
DeleteGorgeous frame. Such pretty detail and wonderful design here.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the copying. It's just amazing what people will do to take credit for other folks' hard work and creativity! It is so hard to believe someone would have the gall to erase your watermark! Things like that just boil my blood!! I'm glad you were able to complain and get the tutorial taken down. How easy it would have been to ask your permission... Well, don't give up...there are always a few bad apples in every bunch, right? Just remember that most of the basket is very good!
Susan
Susan
Yes Susan...fortunately 99.9 % of the people I come across are good apples!!
DeleteAnother gorgeous frame design that you have so generously shared with us! Thank you Sonia and I hope getting caught has made the culprit embarrassed enough not to do it again!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the support Jackie...I suspect the site has many stolen projects..they have given source link to some and not to others.Google penalisation strategies will slowly catch up with these sites!
DeleteBeautiful remake of the calendar. Gorgeous frame design and love your handmade flower, lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a very shocking news Sonia, You put so much efforts everything to make, with plenty of time and energy, I think that site should be banned.
Yes Vinita I too think such sites should be banned..they survive because most people including myself dont have the time to sue them!!
DeleteBeautiful creation here Doc, flowers and colours are just gorgeous.xx
ReplyDeleteThe Journey is the Start
Thank you so much Annie
DeleteAnother lovely photo frame, Sonia. Stunning flowers. So sad that someone took credit for your art, you need to make your watermark much more prominent. Good luck and thanks for joining in on the fun at Cheery Lynn Designs challenge.
ReplyDeleteYes Sandy...I think that is the only thing I will do for now as I dont want to let these incidents discourage me ...and my blogger pals support means so much
DeleteBeautiful Frame. It saddens me as well that someone stole your art tutorial. I love your tutorials and especially your flowers! So inspiring. Thank you for joining our challenge at Cheery Lynn Designs! Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the support Leslierahya
Deletethis is absolutely stunning! love it!

Thank you Smita...I will check it out. Thank you so much for the support too...such words mean a lot to me
DeletePretty beautiful creation dear. Love the flower n the recycling too.

Beautiful frame Sonia..I love the gorgeous flowers and leaves..wonderful recycling.
ReplyDeleteI'm so shocked to hear your news and so vey sorry it happened..but glad you got it sorted..gosh there's some cheeky beggars out there..
luv CHRISSYxx
I always enjoy your photo frames! I too would be upset if someone took credit for my creations. Kudos to you for notify the administration and taking action!
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining in on the challenge at Cheery Lynn Designs!
Sweet friend, I was thinking about you last night while I was crafting to meet a deadline (I'm really bad with deadlines!) and was looking forward to visiting you today. What a joy to have a nice comment waiting for me... it made my heart sparkle that we were on each other's mind's around the same time. :o) Your frame is stunning! Each element emanates with your love and joy for crafting. I too love Cheery Lynn butterflies.. and your flowers are always amazing.
ReplyDeleteI am really saddened to hear about the tutorial stealing. :( I hate how often things like this happen. So many colorists have their images stolen from their cards and then used to enter contests... and there are so many other circumstances. I do not understand how anyone can find joy knowing the praise they're receiving is NOT earned! Keep heart knowing that you have so many people who love and appreciate you. I hope people stop taking credit for your hard work, my friend.
Hugs and blessings,
Karen
This isn't right! I know exactly how it feels our stuff to be used as their own. I had a horrible experience recently. My picture was used to create fake FB profiles! FB wouldn't take down the fake profile as soon as I reported. I had to ask many friends to report the account. I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. Pls do not let it not continue what you do though. You have loads of ideas and talent and thousands of us are benefiting by it.
ReplyDeleteYour photo frame looks gorgeous and the way you have embellishes it is simply perfect !!
ReplyDeleteI am really sad to know that your tutorial and post are being copied and used by other and that too by removing your watermark ..people can be so unethical ..They really don't relaize how much time and effort it takes not only in creating a project but also in sharing a pictorial for it by blogging about it.I am happy though that they have taken down the post after your complain.
I love your Photoframe
ReplyDeleteits again so creative using the calendar on the office that not used anymore..
I wish I have much time to make any project
Two Thumbs up for you Dr Sonia..
dont feel sad if I am not visiting you but I will try my best to do it..
I like your creativity
hope you like to visiting me back Dr Sonia.
Thanks for your last encouragement
its always a happiness to have your smile on my Blog post..

hugs, Monika
Amazing frame, love the colors. Fabulous ideas and great inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHugz from Wisconsin, Patricia
rubber stamping is my game blog
What a gorgeous repurposing of a desktop calendar. Sorry to hear about your tutorial being stolen, but good news that it has since been removed. Thank you for sharing your project with us at Anything But A Card.
ReplyDeleteAwe Dr Sonia, its so upsetting when our work gets used in this way but it is a risk we take when blogging....some people are unscrupulous!!!! This is a very pretty frame! Thank you for linking it to Tando my lovely x
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! Love how u worked around the focal frame :)
ReplyDeleteI had friend that happened to. People don't have any respect for any thing decent people do.But the nobody's dont' care way of life to them, love your blog you do great job,
ReplyDeleteLovely frame, fab recycling! Thanks for joining us this month at Tando.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you have suffered this way, but glad to hear they have amended their blog. Shows they know they are in the wrong!
Lovely project thank you for sharing with us at Tando creative - sorry to hear that you've had such a bad experience glad that it's all sorted now.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fabulous photoframe Sonia.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed unfortunate that your tutorial was posted on another website! Yes, I agree that watermarks are at times annoying but dear this is the only option to protect the hardwork & creativity that goes into making each & every project! Hope you prioritize this!
