Jute Flower Key Holder |
Hi friends sharing an altered wooden Keyholder featuring handmade Jute/ Burlap/Hessian Roses.
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
The Key-holder is in the shape of a house and I used loads of pearls and roses with a touch of glitter here and there!
|
Add caption |
The top has a Spellbinders border die as a background to which I added the roses and glittery flowers and tiny leaves[ using Memory Box Spring Border on glitter foam ]
|
Burlap Roses |
Couldn't resist adding a tiny
rabbit peeking from behind the burlap rose!
|
Pearl Mat roofing |
The roof has a pearl mat and the picture does not do justice to capture the sheer beauty of it!
|
Resin Embellishment |
The front door has cream resin scrolls with paper roses and a sweet hanging Christmas tree!
|
Clay Butterfly |
The gorgeous handmade clay butterfly was sent to me all the way from Canada by my friend
Pamelia !
|
Jute Roses |
I added bits of glitter here and there to my project since just the pink and white alone looked a bit dull!
|
Chipboard Peacock |
The peacock is a chipboard embellishment I heat embossed in "sparkling snow" WOW embossing powder and dressed up with shimmering colored pearls[ again part of my win from Pamelia...I am constantly amazed at the generosity of crafters!]
|
Glitter Foam Craft |
In front of my
gate is a magical glittery border of silver leaves and flowers dotted with tiny sparkling rhinestones [ which were part of a nail art sticker set!]
|
Chipboard Birdhouse |
One wall of the house has a bird house [ again heat embossed with sparkling snow] on a PoppyStamps swirly curl border die cut [ I just love this die I had won long back from Poppystamps and keep on using it in so many projects]
|
Clay Bird |
And of course a bird house needs a bird doesnt it! [Again a handmade gift from Pamelia]
|
Jute Rose |
Another handmade jute rose with a different style of jute leaf
|
MDF Keyholder |
And this is the key-holder before I dressed it all up!
|
Jute Roses |
The other wall of the keyholder has a beautiful resin angel and more jute roses
|
Resin Angel |
All the bits of glittering silver leaves and tiny flowers popping up at different places were cut using the Memory Box Spring Border die.
|
Jute Roses |
The white
winged heart beside my burlap rose was made using white glue sticks and a silicon mold.
Now coming to the Jute Rose tutorial
Materials Required
- Laminated Jute sheets- you need to use the laminated ones like I did in an earlier Jute flower tutorial otherwise your roses would be frayed !
- Scissors or a BigZ cutting die if you have a die cutting machine [ thin dies wont cut the thick jute]
- Glue Gun - I have found that the glue gun is the fast and best adhesive for Jute.Other glues are simply messy and will test your patience!
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
Now I am sharing a photo of my favorite Paper cutter which is a guillotine cutter by Deli. I have had so many crafters mail me and even call me up regarding guidance on the "best" paper cutter.
|
Deli Cutter in action |
You can follow this link to my detailed post on
Paper Cutting Tools ...just reiterating my love for the "guillotine" here as this baby can cut a variety of thick materials like jute sheets in no time! I bet no "trimmer" can do that! And dont be scared by the name "guillotine" though the blade is sharp there is a safety latch which allows you to safely store this cutter!
And lastly .....No, I am not associated with "Deli" or any stores which might be selling this brand of guillotine paper cutter !
|
Jute Squares |
I cut up an A 4 size jute sheet into 2 x 2 inch squares just to make my die cutting quicker! If you are going to be hand-cutting your flowers you dont have to do this!
|
Die cutting with Big Shot |
I used a design in the hugely popular
Tim Holtz Sizzix BigZ Tattered Florals die to make the roses in this project. You can actually adapt it to any other design!
|
Jute Flowers |
You need to cut
only need 2 flowers to make one Burlap Rose and believe me I made all the Jute Roses in this project using
a single A 4 sheet of Jute...isnt that crazily economic!
|
Burlap Rose tutorial |
The above picture shows how I cut tear drop petals from the leftover part of my die cut flower.
Yeah not only do I like to really stretch my craft supplies [though jute is not very expensive ]but the corners of those squares really help one to cut "teardrop" petal shapes!
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
To make a rose you need 3
tear drop petals in addition to the 2 whole flowers
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
Use your scissors to cut between 2 petals to reach the center of one flower as shown above
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
From the other flower cut out a petal
|
Jute Rose center tutorial |
Apply a dot of hot glue to the broad part of this petal and roll the tip to wards it as shown above to form the center of your rose.
Stick the 3 petals you had cut earlier around this center [ sorry no pic of this step but you can see how it looks in a later photo.
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
Apply hot glue to a petal adjacent to the slit on the flower you had cut earlier and stick the adjacent petal over it
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
On the 2nd flower too ,apply glue to the petal adjoining the cut out area and stick the adjoining petal over it .
You will get 2 cup shaped flowers with 5 and 4 petals respectively
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
Apply a bit of hot glue to the larger flower and stick the smaller one inside it.
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
Stick the central bud inside using hot glue and your rose is done....Easy wasn't it ?
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
For those of you who dislike using the hot glue gun because of the inevitable burning while crafting ...the best part of this tutorial is that since jute is such a thick material even clumsy , "
in a hurry" crafters like me can avoid burnt fingers!
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
Well now I have to show you the actual
Key Holder part !
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
Inside the Keyholder , I added a couple of funky elements like a silver cloud [ with more pearls!] , a glass butterfly , a metal butterfly charm, paper roses and more jute roses.
|
Burlap Rose Tutorial |
In keeping with the upcoming festive season, I added a hanging silver ornament! And in the center you can see my favorite PoppyStamps swirly curl border die cut too!
|
Glitter Foam Ornament |
I hope you liked my Jute Rose tutorial and all the pearls and little tidbits I added to this Shabby Chic project!
