Center Step Card |
Hi friends though I love making fancy fold cards this is my first attempt at a center step card and though technically the card was easy [I followed
Joann's tutorial ], my mojo was at a low and boy did I struggle to embellish it ...my mind visualised something but my hands created something entirely different...if you know what I mean!
And on more than one instance I was tempted to dump it all in the dustbin!
|
Center Step Card |
Made the central panel with a crackle stamp , sprays , Distress Inks and stencilling with inka gold. The sparkling golden leaves were heat embossed using the
Winnie and Walter In Bloom Elsa's Flora Stamp Set and the flower was made using
Heartfelt creations stamps and dies.
|
Center Step Card |
The little bird and nest were made using lightweight air drying clay and molds
|
Center Step Card |
The heart is from the
Winnie and Walter True stamp set- it was heat embossed in white and colored with Distress Inks.I smeared
Inka Gold on the heart and on random areas on the crackle background to give a golden sparkle.
The two butterflies on the top sparkle as they were stamped on an "Alcohol inks swirled" metallic card stock
|
Center Step Card |
While I was making this card, my
in house critique , my 10 yr old daughter ,told me bluntly that the side panels and the centre looked rather disconnected!Well I had to agree with her and I added pink ribbon roses and a twirling pink pearl string across the central panel and side panels to try and bring about a coherence though am not sure how much I have succeeded!
What do you think my friends?

ReplyDeleteMelissa
"Sunshine HoneyBee"
Thank you so much Melissa...I just managed to salvage it!
DeleteI think this card is very dainty and pretty! The pastel colors really make it pop! Your in-house critic is very sophisticated saying it looked disconnected - at ten years of age, lol! Sometimes, those closest to us are the worse for opinions. But looks like you took her advice and made adjustments since it now looks beautiful! Your critic is a keeper!
ReplyDeleteHehe Gail ...she was quite specific in her criticism and I was amazed myself that she could tell me exactly what was wrong with it!! I had actually made the central part first and then made the side panels and the styles were different and yes it clashed!!
DeleteI am so glad that you didn't put this in the dustbin, it is a beautiful creation, some gorgeous dies and a great take on out colour theme.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining our Colour challenge this week at Allsorts.
Kath

DeleteBeautiful card Sonia!! Love how you've embellished the panels!! Totally worth the time and effort!! I start to think of making a center step card, then when think of how to embellish it, I drop the whole plan :) Maybe I should try it once again!!

Moxie Craftie
Yes Berina...I jumped in without realising the side panels would be tough...they are just 1 inch wide and a bit awkward to embellish!
DeleteAww this is gorgeous. You use all the elements to the fullest.
ReplyDeleteSo summery and fresh, love the center step design with such cute embellishments and dies! Absolutely cheerful!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty and full of beautiful colors and details!! :)
ReplyDeleteSuchi xx
This is beautiful - such lovely delicate colours. I know what you mean about head and hands not thinking the same, so many times I finish a card and it's nothing like the one I had planned!

Thank you so much Kath
Deletea virtual garden dear, your diecut combo is always beautiful
ReplyDeleteOh Yes Shylaa...I am a die cutting girl...I struggle with stamps but love to use dies
DeleteThis is gorgeous. So many beautiful elements to admire. Love the dies, the inking the embellishments...love it all!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much !
DeleteI think it absolutely beautiful and wonderfully coherent! The twinkling gold , lovely fret work die cuts and added embellishments work so perfectly together. I love the little bird and nest but I must admit that they do look made of chocolate which is just another reason to love your card :D
ReplyDeleteHehe Debra ...love your comment about my chocolate bird nest...I just stole my daughter's air dry clay to make it!!Hehe
DeleteBrilliantly made creation. loving this spring and refreshing card..such a fabulous design...xx {aNNie}
ReplyDeleteThanks also Doc for entering into our challenge at Allsorts using the mood board colours to perfection.xxx
You are soooo kind Annie...not the best of my creations but I did try to keep the palette true to the All sorts Challenge
DeleteSimply superb. When I looked at the card- the huge pink flower caught my eye. Next was the bird and the nest with eggs- so cute, I always like cute little things.
ReplyDeleteI feel the side panels frame the center part and look very beautiful. Even if you have not added the pearls, it would be gorgeous all the same. In fact the pearls are not much noticeable.
I don't know this is my personal opinion and I am not much of an expert on this craft.
Hehe Ms Sharma...I value your opinion very very much and you dont have to be an expert...I too felt I should have left out the pearls...they do clash with the rest of the card..!
DeleteFancy fold cards !! Tricky to embellish. This is your first centerstep card ? Surprised! they are really easy to create but what to put on side panels takes away most of the fun.Prisha is developing into a keen Crafter :)btw I loved the pretty embellished center step card :)
ReplyDeleteYes Pooja I was so happy the folds and cuts were easy but was rather stumped about embellishing the narrow side panels!
DeleteThis is so pretty. I love the pastels and all your details. The little bird nest - unexpected and so sweet. I have a 10 year old grandson who critiques me. lol
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning card! I love everything about it!

This is absolutely gorgeous and I am so grateful it didn't end up in the bin. This came out so beautifully, Sonia. It may look different than envisioned, but the result is stunning. This is the most unique center step card I've seen, which is not surprising since I'm on your inspiring blog. :o) You have a gift and it always sparkles brilliantly. Thank you for inspiring us! And thank you for sticking with me during this tough stretch where I am unable to comment as often as I'd like. Please know I do see and enjoy your heartfelt creations. :o) Have a wonderful day, friend!

Karen
Oh Karen your words are always so uplifting....Thank you so much for being my friend!
DeleteWonderful card! You have embellished it beautifully with so many amazing elements! Love the design & pattern. When I try to incorporate so many embellishments i usually end up to a mess & overfilled thing, but you have done it perfectly. So bright & cheerful :) :)
ReplyDeleteOh Priyanka what a sweet way of encouraging me!! And I confess I do tend to stack on the embellies!!
