Photo frame Tutorial and Handmade Gift Set

Punchcraft flowers Photo frame
I love  recycling and making photo frames and this is a tweak to my earlier handmade photoframe tutorials.I made this photoframe as a matching set to the box and card shared in the Aperture card tutorial

Handmade Photo frame tutorial

This photoframe tutorial is the simplest ever!Do refer to my earlier photoframe tutorials for more details on little steps.
Materials required
1.Corrugated paper/thick card stock/mdf etc for the front of your photo frame. I am partial to corrugated card as it is easy to cut an aperture in and still gives a sturdy frame.
2. Use any thick sturdy material you fancy or recycle a desktop calendar/hard bound book cover/Cardboard box/cardboard etc for the back of the photo frame
Handmade Photoframe
3.Craft knife
4.Double sided foam tape
5.Photo to serve as template .
Photoframe tutorial
1.and 2. Mark around a photo on the back side of your corrugated card--indicated by black bold line.
3. and 4.Run a craft knife against a scale or sturdy edge to cut an aperture a few millimeters inside the photo template marked. Dont worry about ragged edges-- you can always hide it with embellishments!
5.Stick double sided foam tape a little outside the photo template marking as shown leaving one side free so as to leave a gap to slip in your photo. Also stick double sided tape at the border edge of the corrugated card as shown.
Using double sided foam tape instead of glue [ in my earlier photoframe tutorials] has 2 advantages:

  • Its easier to slip your photo in and out  and
  • Its easier and quicker to make your photo-frame.
Punchcraft flowers Photoframe
When making photo-frames with corrugated paper avoid heavy embellishments on the side through which the photo is slipped in [ ie if you plan to keep changing your photo].The photo is slipped in from the top in this frame so all my flowers are on the sides.I layered some punched daisies and quilled a calyx to make the white punchcraft flowers.
Punchcraft flowers
Made a 3 D bird house by layering the die cuts using double sided foam tape. The red rhinestones are bindis like I used in the altered box.
Marianne die cut birdhouse
I do love the intricate design of the Cheery Lynn Die Butterfly
Cheery Lynn Die butterfly
The tiny golden knobs on my fence are bindis.I cut the fence twice and layered it using the foam to give it a 3 D backdrop for my punchcraft flowers
Punchcraft flowers Photoframe
Glamorized this medicine box into a note paper holder using die cuts and punchcraft flowers.
Punchraft flowers on box
Here is the card whose tutorial I shared in my earlier post.I tried to use the same flowers and leaves on my photoframe to make it a matching set
Punchcraft flowers card and box
Made a 3 D "Best Wishes" tag by layering die cuts with foam tape and adding a tiny butterfly on a punchcraft flower

Here are all the elements of my handmade gift set which includes a paper holder box, gift tag ,card and photo frame.

  8. Another fantastic tutorial Sonia, gorgeous projects, love the frame and the beautiful colours together...I love the fence and birdhouse die, one of my favourites and just learnt to put it through the machine again with the rubber embossing or cardstock mat and it leaves such great details on the birdhouse and fence, and the wee bird.

  33. What a fabulous challenge theme u choose doc !!I am too a great fan of making photo frames . Looking forward to participate. This tutorial is indeed very easy. You know when I read the line about 'ragged edges' .. I got a smile on my face.. As this is actually I think how I decorate most of the parts my frame ..hiding ragged edges , ugly glue marks etc :P

    Replies
    1. Jyoti when I though of the theme your name was the first that came to my mind as you make such fabulous photoframes and yes I agree corrugated paper does give ragged edges which can be easily masked!!

The fact that you are an ENT caught my eye. I was in a serious accident in January of this year. I had a serious head injury and the carotid arteries in my neck were severed. In spite of my injuries the Lord healed me. You would never know by looking at me or talking to me that I was where I was just 9 months ago.
I hope you have a wonderful day!
