DIY Handmade Bag Charms

Handmade Bag Charms
Hi friends ,the current craze in my daughter's school is bag charms ! Being DIY enthusiasts we tried making our own handmade bag charms with  craft supplies we had at home!
Handmade Bag Charms
These are just the type of craft to do with hoarded beads and any cute embellishments in your stash!
Handmade Bag Charms
We used jewelry making supplies[long eye pins and jump rings] and resin embellishments to make the bag charms.
Bag Charm Making Supplies
We used a local brand of adhesive called Fevibond [easy for older children to handle]to stick the resin princesses to the  background frame...you can use any strong jewelry grade adhesives like E6000 also if you are making these on your own without involving children.
Handmade Bag Charms
My daughter has a minimalist style and exclusively designed the 2 charms shown below. She die cut 2 sparkling circles from silver holographic paper and stuck them onto acrylic discs before gluing on the resin princesses .
DIY Princess Bag Charm
The beautiful  blue rose chain on which the  cute blue princess dangles is a broken bracelet!Hehe yes I am glad I hung onto this broken bit of jewelry!

These bag charms are going on my daughter's school bag and purse but I just couldn't resist using one on my own handbag too!!
What do you say friends...how do you like them...?

Collage Clay Crafts

Collage Clay Crafts
Hi friends sharing a few projects made with Collage Clay , an amazing versatile product manufactured by Plaid [ the same company which makes the hugely popular Mod Podge] and brought to the Indian Craft scene by Crafters Corner
Collage Clay
Collage Clay is a type of clay which has the consistency of thick creamy icing .It comes in 2 colors vanilla white and strawberry pink,is packed in piping bags and you can use 3 nozzles to pipe the collage clay and use it to decorate  the same way as you would with regular icing !!
Collage Clay
Its called collage clay because not only can you use it on a multitude of surfaces  such as metal, glass, plastic, ceramic, wood etc etc; you can also embed  a wide variety of objects in it such as beads, shells, buttons, clay trinkets, metallic charms etc etc.
You dont have to use any additional glue and it dries spongy and gorgeous !
Here are a few projects using Collage Clay

Decorated Jars and Plastic Containers

Recycling Plastic Containers
We all have plastic boxes and glass jars at home dont we..? Well I used collage clay to jazz up the lids of my daughter's empty play-dough containers.
Collage Clay Crafts
I piped a layer of vanilla collage clay and embedded cute little resin "cabochons" into the collage clay while it was still wet. If you are new to using a piping bag it may be  a bit tricky to get perfect creamy swirls but the fun part is you can camouflage your imperfections by adding cute embellishments over it!
Collage Clay Crafts
I wanted the container to look like a cupcake so cut up a strip of corrugated paper and stuck it over the lower part of the plastic container with red tacky tape.
Collage Clay Crafts
And here is the faux cupcake- cute as well as functional!
Collage Clay Crafts
The collage clay is recommended for use above 8 yrs and I think the main reason is because younger children would find it difficult to squeeze the collage clay out of the piping bags. Though my daughter is 9 ,she is a gentle child and try as she might she couldnt get the collage piping bags to work but she did enjoy decorating the "iced" objects with cabochons Shalini sent us from Crafters Corner!
Collage Clay Crafts
The blue heats are all rhinestones and the shiny pink heart is actually an epoxy sticker. The cabochons and other elements such as beads etc need to be added while the collage clay is still wet [ clay takes 1- 5 days to fully dry depending on the amount you use !!]

Decorate Stationary and Penstands

Stationary box
You can never have enough pen-stands isnt it ...well at least that is the scenario at our home !
Collage Clay Crafts
I wanted to see what all elements the collage clay could hold and so in this project I added crystal flowers , home made resin leaves and broken jewelry bits
Collage Clay Crafts
So if you have a piece of broken jewelry that is too sentimental or pretty to throw away save it for just such a collage craft!!
Collage Clay Crafts

Use with ordinary air drying clay or polymer clay to get the icing / cream effect!

Collage Clay Crafts
You can use collage clay with ordinary air drying clay or baked polymer clay projects to easily get icing or cream effects. I made the swiss roll above with ordinary air drying clay [ sponge cake texture effect achieved using a toothbrush] and iced it with collage clay and added tiny glitter balls atop!
Collage Clay Crafts
Made the tiny pink macaroons with air drying clay and sandwiched together with collage clay cream!

Make Jewelry

Jewelry bases
Since you can embed objects in collage clay without using additional glue its super fun to use it to make pendants, rings , brooches, hair accessories etc
Collage Clay Crafts
I iced collage clay onto a blank pendant and added a glass tortoise to make this pendant.
Collage Clay Crafts
The glass tortoise had such an odd shape that it would have looked odd on its own on the pendant but adding the collage clay base made this is a super easy pendant to make.
Collage Clay Crafts
When you experiment with collage clay for the first time your piping may not look too good. Its literally impossible to put the squeezed out collage clay back into your piping bag.In such cases you can scoop it onto a pendant/ring base and add a large embellishment on it like the blue resin rose in my pendant !

Make Rings

You can use not only ready made cabochons but also create your own fun elements to add to collage clay crafts.
Collage Clay Crafts
The tiny fruits are my very amateurish attempts with  clay sculpting! The red clay I used to make the strawberry turned orange red after a coat of glue!

Make Matching Accessories

Collage Clay Crafts
There are so many themed cabochons available at Crafters Corner and my kiddo just adored the Frozen character one which she used to make a pendant and a matching ring .The purple hearts are epoxy stickers!

Decorate Photoframes

Rotating Photoframe
Collage clay makes decorating photo-frames super easy ...just pipe  a design and add fun embellishments ...and not only the regular shaped ones but unusual ones like the rotating cylindrical photo-frame shown above!
Collage Clay Crafts
I made the little pink doughnut and the slightly off color strawberry using regular air drying clay. All the other embellishments are ready made resin cabochons sent to me from Crafters Corner

More Tips with Collage Clay

  • Its not a craft meant for young children as piping the collage clay will be difficult for them but yes they can join in adding the embellishments!
  • If you feel a surface is especially smooth you can sand it with a sandpaper so that the collage clay has a better grip on it
  • Collage clay dries spongy and sturdy
  • Drying time depends on the amount of collage clay you use and the object you are using it on. If for example you are using it to decorate a phone case which will be subjected to a lot of handling its prudent to wait 1-5 days for it to dry well otherwise the clay surface can crack
  • You can color collage clay - if you are going to apply it on a stencil or smear it on a surface you can mix color into it and apply
  • You can paint over collage clay - I saw a demo of  spray painting on collage clay and it looked awesome.

DIY Fashion Accessories Tutorial

DIY Fashion Accessories
Hi friends...it feels like its been ages since I posted online though actually its been just a fortnight. Here is a fashion accessory tutorial brought to you by my little girl! Yes she made the gorgeous flowers on her head band!
The flowers you see are made from special " Sospeso Trasparente" printed plastic films.Click this link to read more about the beautiful Italian craft of Sospeso Trasparente
Sospeso Transparente
After cutting out the flower designs, they are heated and embossed using wooden [wood because of its heat conduction properties]embossing tools on a special embossing pad.
Sospeso Trasparente technique
It is indeed magical to see such flat flowers transform into 3 dimensional beauties!
Sospeso Trasparente flowers
Layered 2 daisies atop with hot glue to create a fuller flower .
My little girl has been coaxing me to allow her to make a video tutorial ..and finally I relented! Here is my little girl showing you How to use Diamond dust to make Sparkling Flowers
You  can also jazz up Sospeso Trasparente flowers  with ice crystals ,inking or glitter!
Hairband tutorial
Here is how to make any kinda hair band using not only Sospeso flowers but felt, foam, fabric or any other crafty thing you make and want on your head!
Hair Band tutorial
Materials required
  • Hairbands : plastic, metal or felt  hair bands - the plain plastic ones are super cheap and ideal for your first experiment!
  • Foam- thin craft foam is the best but if you only find the thicker one-- that's okay too
  • Glue Gun
Hair Band tutorial
Cut a thin rectangular piece of foam long enough to wrap around your hairband.Keep its width smaller than the size of your flower so that the foam base is hidden when you stick your flower
Hair Band tutorial
Hot glue the foam strip around your hair band.
Sospeso Trasparente hair band
Apply your flower directly on to this foam strip or for a more secure attachment, stick a  circle/ square foam piece atop this foam strip with hot glue. You can use a glue dot also to stick foam to foam but the best adhesive for foam is hot glue!
Sospeso Trasparente hair band
And if you are wondering why I chose foam rather than felt or any other material to form the base for our Sospeso Trasparente  flower- its because when using the hot glue..the plastic and foam melt and fuse to each other giving a very firm adhesion which can survive the many antics a little girl's hair band is bound to be subjected to!

We made one more foam strip - disc to attach a 2nd diamond dusted Sospeso flower!

Every girl loves matching accessories! So we made a matching necklace using more Sospeso Trasparente flowers
Sospeso Trasparente Necklace
We made a Sospeso Trasparente flower with ice crystals following this tutorial : Sospeso Ice crystal effect and added them to a plastic base brooch
Sospeso Trasparente jewelry
You can use the brooch as such and pin it to dresses , curtains, bags etc or add it to a chain and use it as a pendant!
Sospeso Trasparente jewelry
Making a Sospeso Trasparente brooch is super simple- hot glue a foam piece to a plastic brooch and stick your flower to the foam disc
