Alcohol Ink Card making |
Hi friends this card is an experiment with
Alcohol Inks. In case you are new to Alcohol Inks , here is an introduction :
Alcohol Inks Introduction Tutorial. In this card I used alcohol inks to make the background of my card and also to make the butterfly embellishments.
|
Alcohol Inked Card |
Alcohol Inks can be used to make such beautiful vibrant backgrounds for cards and mixed media but oh blimey they are so difficult to capture in photographs especially when one is in a hurry!
These are the products I used to make the background
- Ranger Alcohol Inks poppyfield [Red] and botanical [green]
- Alcohol Blending Solution
- Glossy Card stock
- Wooden Applicator and Felt piece
|
Alcohol Ink crafting |
I applied a few drops of red and green on a piece of felt and a few drops of Alcohol Ink blending solution and randomly stamped on metallic card stock.
Using the same color combination I will show how I got entirely different background by varying the way I stamped the inks on the card-stock.
In the background shown I just vertically dabbed the felt piece on the card stock randomly to create a mosaic. You can see that I used more red than green .The areas of brown are where the red and green overlapped
|
Alcohol Ink background |
To create the background shown below I used the same red- green combination but instead of just dabbing on the card stock I made a twirling motion
|
Alcohol Ink background |
To lighten or remove colors from an area , take a new felt piece , add a drop or 2 of Alcohol Inks Blending solution and dab over the area you want to lighten. If you swirl with a felt piece containing plain Alcohol Inks Blending solution alone you can make the colors already on the card-stock blend into each other! Its actually like magic and you get totally new effects every time you play!
|
Alcohol Ink Card making |
I never used to play much with inks but this project is totally inky....the flower was made by stamping , die cutting and coloring with distress inks!

Alcohol Inks and Heat Embossing
|
Alcohol Ink and Heat Embossing |
Alcohol Ink can create such colorful projects they are the perfect backdrop for heat embossing. To make the butterfly shown above , I stamped a Hero arts butterfly with Versafine and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder !
|
Alcohol Ink and Heat Embossing |
And you can get totally different looks by trying heat embossing with different embossing powders...the butterfly shown above is another Hero Arts butterfly but this time embossed with Super Fine white embossing powder.
|
Alcohol Ink background Card |
The central panel was embossed using the latest craze in embossing folders-- the We R Memory Keepers embossing folder and the Marianne die cuts were inked with Abandoned Coral Distress Inks to match the rest of the card.
|
Alcohol Inked Card |
Depending on how the light falls on your project Alcohol Inks can just fade into the background or stand out vibrantly!
I hope you liked my project

ReplyDeleteBeautiful background to a very pretty card. What is the best cardstock to use, the same as water coloring?
ReplyDeleteSue you need to use metallic/ glossy card stock...the entire opposite to water coloring as these inks work on non porous surfaces. Ranger has a special card stock for use with their Alcohol Inks but I didnt have that so used a metal mirror surface style card stock I picke dup from my local stationary shop
