Blocks Card |
Yesterday night I stumbled upon Becca's blog with a unique challenge and special blog hop"
Hop to Stop " promoting
awareness about domestic violence. Many of us have first hand experience about it and being a doctor I see far too many victims of domestic violence. Every month I see cases of ear drum perforation and ladies losing their hearing [albeit temporarily] as a result of being hit by their husband .The sad part is that majority of the women don't complain. Even educated and financially independent ladies take the abuse as if its normal. It is a topic which raises my shackles and I could go on and on but then....
|
Stepping Blocks Card |
I felt a
Stepping Block Card was perfect for the theme...a person has to find the courage often within oneself to step out of such abusive situations .
|
Fairy Card |
I made my step card in a purple fairy land theme...fairies are such magical beautiful creatures and it is always good to believe in a bit of good magic!
|
Step Block Card |
Here is how my step card looks from above.
|
Block Card |
I felt like adding grapes on one of the stepping blocks ...
sour and sweet grapes...life after all does deal one sourness and sweetness...we just have to muster courage to deal with the sour situations!
|
Clay Grapes |
On a lighter note...my grapes are made from lightweight clay and varnished to give a glistening shine!
|
Fairy Card |
On one of my steps is another cute fairy sitting peacefully on a cherry blossom branch!
|
Flat folding Card |
This was my first attempt at making a block card and I love how it folds flat for mailing. This card was inspired by
KT and the
StampOwl
Supplies :Dies : Joy Crafts lace border, Couture creations scallop square, Heartfelt creations Botanical Wings , Provocraft butterfly
Absolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHave a creative day.

Sniffle* wow... reading through this was so emotional. What a beautifully written, thought out post. I love what you've created - the clay grapes, the lovely fairy. I hadn't seen a stepping block card before, so this was really neat. THANK YOU for being a part of the awesomeness that is the Hop to Stop.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful project, I can see this sitting on my dresser... love the purples and the pretty images... Awesome as always Sonia!
ReplyDeleteThis brought tears to my eyes. I really like how you explained your step card and your connection to this issue. It hits home with me too as my mother was a victim of domestic violence and almost lost her life. Hard for me to talk about as I end up crying, like I'm doing now. Your step card is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat card for a great cause!!! Absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteDr. Sonja - your card is truly a work of art and LOVE! The images, the unique shape (stepping block is a first for me), the creativity...I am in AWE! Your post is heart-breaking, yet touching. How wonderful that YOU can make such a positive difference in people's lives. Indeed, you've already done so in mine, with your visit and warm comment! Thank you!

a very worthy topic for a blog hop. It's hard to imagine how someone could stay in an abusive relationship like that unless you've actually been in the situation.

Hi there Sonia! I have come for a visit from Ann's blog. Your card is absolutely stunning💜 I used to love to make many different types of greeting cads and attend classes on different techniques, but now that I have begun writing review posts on my blog, there just is not enough hours in the day for me to do it all. I am sure you know what I mean. The significance of this post is near and dear to
ReplyDeletemy heart and the card is perfect for the cause. I will add you to my blogroll so I can read about all of the beautiful cards you have made! Nice to "meet" you! Jeanne
Oh my, what a gorgeous creation that serves a beautiful purpose. I have made cards for women's shelters and their stories shatter the heart. I love this type of card but have never seen one like this. It is uniquely beautiful, just like YOU. Thank you for inspiring us... you are a blessing in more ways than you can even imagine. :o) Have a blessed weekend, sweet friend.

Fantastic card! Never seen a block card before, I love how it folds flats for posting. Beautifully embellished. What a wonderful cause to promote. Having a loving husband is the best thing in my life, along with my children, so to have an abusive partner is too horrific to contemplate. My heart goes out to these people, it happens to men too, and hope that they can take the first step to being free of abuse. Debra x

DR. S: I too stand for the cause. Having worked in OB-GYN have seen and reported to social services many cases of domestic abuse and the fear the patients express or show of the abuse. I will make the step card honoring this cause. Support is necessary to get the word out or pray someone will notice and seek help.

ReplyDeleteHey doc,
ReplyDeleteKudos to you on both your thoughts and the cards, they r lovely. Loved the outcome of your attempts ( though they look like a pro job) at alcohol inks. They r gorgeous. If it is fine with you, could I know where you got your fairies from? Would love to lay my hands on them. Thanks and Gud luck.
Thank you so much ...the fairies are actually part of a 3 d decoupage sheet I picked up from my local shop called Devi and Co in Bangalore. Its called Flower Fairies Friends and its freestyle decoupage sheets from Crafters Companion. PS : its no longer available in Devi and co ...I bought this sheet 2-3 yr back...yes I am a big hoarder!
